Frank Slachman '72
fter graduating from LHS in 1972, Frank
A Slachman attended Washington University
where he studied Chemical Engineering and graduated
in 1976. He then attended St. Louis University
for medical school, did his surgical residency at
Stanford, and did his cardiothoracic and transplant
training at the University of Washington. Dr.
Slachman has been in his current practice as a Cardiac
Surgeon for the last 17 years working a risky,
demanding and emergency-ridden job. High-risk
patients from southern and northern California are
referred to Slachman’s team. It’s not uncommon for
him to leave the hospital after 10 p.m., and after particularly
grueling surgeries, he doesn’t make it home
at all. Slachman averages seven heart surgeries a
week and operates on call for nearly half of his
weekends.
As for his personal accomplishments, Slachman
says he learned to work hard, and play hard. His
wife thinks he is crazy, because he loves to try anything
new and has dabbled in lots of things, including
auto road racing, becoming a pilot, scuba diving, big
Glenn Zimmerman '82
lenn Zimmerman is the Meteorologist for FOX 2
News in the Morning which begins at 5:00 a.m.
He has been forecasting weather on the morning show
since 1990. A St. Louis native, Glenn graduated from
Lindbergh High School in 1982. He has a degree in
Broadcast Journalism from Kansas State University,
and a degree in Meteorology from Saint Louis University.
When not forecasting, Glenn is into music. From his
trumpet and tuba playing days at LHS, to his guitar
playing of today. Glenn stays active in the music scene
in St. Louis. You can catch him out playing or sitting in
with other local groups, as well as his band The Bobbleheads.
He also incorporates music into his forecasts
with his “Weather Song of the Day.” Much to the dismay
of his wife Jill, he has an extensive CD collection
and Jill states that thank goodness for e-music, otherwise
they would need another wing on the house for all
the music.
Glenn is very generous in donating his time and talents;
playing auctioneer for many non-profits to help
them raise money. About half of Zimmerman’s calen-
game hunting
and
marlin fishing
to
name a
few. In recent
years,
Slachman
has been
more involved in cycling, running and mountaineering.
While his cycling is mostly recreational, he has
made numerous "Century Rides," and most of his
summers include a cycling tour in Europe. Slachman
has jogged about 10 marathons including those in
the major cities like Chicago, New York and Boston.
Frank claims he is not sure how the whole “mountain
climbing thing” got started as he swears he is afraid
of heights and hates cold weather! However, he was
invited to go on an Everest expedition in 2007 and
he went, never expecting to really make it to the top.
He got sick on the summit attempt and was unable
to make the entire climb. However, he signed up to
go again this year and ended up standing on the top
dar is devoted
to
such charity
work. He
also often
makes the
time to visit
schools to
talk about weather. His favorite question, usually from
a grade school student is, “HOW MUCH MONEY DO
YOU MAKE”
Glenn also coaches his children, Claire and Jack, in
baseball, softball and basketball, and is active with the
Boy Scouts as well. Glenn himself is an Eagle Scout.
Glenn’s parents still live in the Lindbergh District and
he has a brother in St. Louis, and a sister in Oklahoma.
While St. Louis was in the spot light winning the world
series in 2006, during the downtown parade, Fox 2’s
Glenn Zimmerman made sure he mentioned twice that
he graduated from LHS and also played in the (newly
started at the time) marching band.
Glenn has always been proud of his LHS roots.
