A Touch of Class • Summer 2009 Alumni Updates Beth Cross '97 Joins District as Director of Communications eth Cross '97 B has been named director of Lindbergh School District’s Community Relations Department. She will replace Mary Glynn Meyer who retired after 32 years in the department. Cross received her B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Drake University. While in school, she served as editor of her student newspapers, The Pilot at Lindbergh, and The Times-Delphic at Drake. Cross left her position as Communications Coordinator at SSM Health Care to return to her Lindbergh roots. She has also served as communications specialist for SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center, and copy editor and reporter for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Cross began her position at Lindbergh on July 21. Nikki Snelson '94 Appears in “42nd Street” at the Muny ikki Snelson '94 returned to St. Louis this summer for the Muny’s production of 42nd Street. N Nikki played the part of Annie in the show, the part played by Ginger Rogers in the movie that inspired the show. Most recently, Snelson originated the role of fitness guru and murder suspect Brooke Wyndham in "Legally Blonde" on Broadway and played Cassie, the lead, in the national tour of "A Chorus Line." She is getting ready to play the Mad Hatter in a new Frank Wildhorn show, "Wonderland." Nikki made her debut as an Emerald City-zen in "The Wizard of Oz," garbed in green from headdress to toes, while she was a student at Lindbergh High School. She has returned again and again calling the Muny a top summer place to work. Frank Slachman '72 (cont.) (Continued from page 6) of the world! This whole adventure has now morphed into climbing the Seven Summits, the tallest mountain on every continent. Slachman’s interest in outdoor adventure led to an audition, with his operating room coworkers for CBS’s reality show, “Survivor.” Slachman says it was “just great fun” for the staff, and made it all the way through the second round of auditions. 8
Class of '79 Celebrates 30-year Reunion A Touch of Class • Summer 2009 By Mary (Miller) Diamond ‘79 he Lindbergh High School Class of 1979 30- T Year Reunion was held Saturday, July 11 th at the Sheraton Westport Lakeside Chalet in the Versailles Ballroom. We had a great time! Our DJ played music from our era (Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Peter Frampton, etc.) in addition to other party songs. We reminisced, laughed, danced, drank, dined and did our best to act 18 again! This time however, we were of legal drinking age! A professional photographer captured the reunion moments. We are quite a handsome group as this class photo proves. I will always remember the photo op ending with the DJ cuing up the words “and I’m never going back to my old school” by Steely Dan. That song will forever remind me of our fabulous 30 th reunion! The happy hour on Friday night at Helen Fitzgerald’s was packed to the maximum. It was unbelievable seeing all those familiar faces. Earlier that day a small group of us went on a tour of our beloved Lindbergh. Thank you to Mary Jane and Coach Bee! Sunday’s picnic at Springdale was not canceled due to a major storm! Instead, a courageous bunch of alumni risked our lives (okay, I’m exaggerating a bit) to have one last time to catch up with each other before calling it a day. Mark Sullivan and I worked very hard on this reunion and were very pleased (and proud) with the success of this fabulous weekend of laughter, memories, tears, and just plain FUN!! Class of '89 Celebrates 20-year Reunion T he class of 1989 held its 20 year reunion on August 14, 15, and 16. The reunion kicked off on Friday for an informal Happy Hour at O’Leary’s in (From left) Jennifer (Jewell) AuBuchon, Kim (DeFoe) Arnold, Denise (Mankell) Morrow, Pam (Sept) Hill 9 By Kim (Defoe) Arnold ‘89 Sunset Hills. Not only did the night draw a large crowd for the class of 1989 but there were quite a few people from other LHS graduating classes as well. A nice surprise to the evening! Saturday’s more upscale event was held at Moulin Events / Vin de Set which is located downtown on Chouteau. It was a beautiful location for a reunion. The 80’s music / videos brought back a lot of memories as classmates enjoyed dancing to their old favorites. Most of all everyone enjoyed catching up with old friends. What a wonderful night! Sunday’s picnic was held in Kirkwood Park and included friends and family. It was a nice relaxing day that concluded a fabulous weekend.
