Prof CHEN Kwan-yiu, Edward (President)
• Served as Chairman of the Final Judging Panels
for the Hong Kong Awards for Industry 2001
and attended meetings for the final judging
panels for various groupings categorised under
Quality; Machinery and Equipment Design;
Productivity; Consumer Product Design;
Environmental Performance, and Export
Marketing and Technological Achievement on
16-17 August 2001 at the Hong Kong
Productivity Centre and the Federation of Hong
Kong Industries;
• Visited Macquarie University, Sydney,
Australia on 20 August 2001 and met with their
Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dianne YERBURY, to
discuss with them about student exchange
under Lingnan's international exchange
programme;
• Attended the Pacific Trade and Development
(PAFTAD) 27 Conference held at the Australian
National University, Canberra, on 20-22 August
2001 in his capacity as a member of the
International Steering Committee;
• Invited by the United Nations Conference on
Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to serve
as a resource person on the launching of World
Investment Report (WIR) 2001 on 19 September
2001 in Hong Kong;
• Invited by Taiwan Institute of Economic
Research and National Policy Foundation to
participate in a round-table discussion forum
on 'Regional Development and Outlook' and
presented a paper titled "East Asian Economic
Cooperation: China's Viewpoint" on 21
September 2001 in Taipei, Taiwan;
• Invited as Guest Speaker by the Civil Service
Training and Development Institute in its
Leadership in Public Sector Programme No 7
and delivered a speech titled "The Global Mega
Trends: Implications for HK and the Public
Sector" to the senior professionals and junior
directorates of the civil service on 25 September
2001;

• Invited as Guest Speaker by the Asian
Productivity Organisation at its International
Productivity Conference (IPC'01) on
"Productivity in the New Millennium:
Enhancing Competitiveness through People and
Value Creation" held on 2-4 October 2001 in
Singapore. A speech entitled "Competitiveness
through People in the 'New Economy' Era:
Policy Options" was delivered;
• Invited by the School of Communication, The
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) to
deliver a speech to its Post-graduate students
titled "The Hong Kong Press Council's
Functions: Freedom of Speech Versus Freedom
of the Press" on 9 October 2001 in HKBU's
campus;
• Invited by the Hong Kong International Institute
of Educational Leadership to deliver a speech
on "The Economic and Social Consequences of
the ICT Revolution" at its Annual General
Meeting held at Wah Yan College on 17 October
2001;
• Invited by The University of Hong Kong Old
Halls Alumni Association to deliver a speech
entitled "The Challenges of the New Economy
and New Technologies" at its Annual Dinner
held on 27 October 2001;
• Invited by the Institute of Geology and
Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences
to deliver a welcoming address at its 5th
International Conference on the East Asian
Environment (CEAPE) held in The University
of Hong Kong on 29 October 2001 in his
capacity as Honorary Chairman of the
Conference;
• Invited by the World Economic Forum to serve
as a Panel Speaker on "The Future of Hong
Kong" at the East Asia Economic Summit held
on 29-31 October 2001; and
• Attended the Graduation Ceremony of
Diploma in Business Management (Chinese
Course) jointly organised by Hong Kong
Management Association and Lingnan, and
presented the certificates to graduates on
30 October 2001.
