• Prof YUAN Wei ( !), Vice-President<br />
of Renmin <strong>University</strong> of China, visited the<br />
<strong>University</strong> on 18 September 2001. He was<br />
received by Prof NYAW Mee-Kau, Vice-<br />
President, Prof LU Ming-te, Director of Business<br />
Programmes Office, <strong>and</strong> Dr ZHENG Yujian,<br />
Assistant Professor of Department of Philosophy.<br />
• Dr S V SRINIVAS, a Fellow of Centre for the<br />
Study of Culture <strong>and</strong> Society, Bangalore, India<br />
spent 4 weeks at the Department of Cultural<br />
Studies in September. During his visit, he met<br />
with colleagues in the department <strong>and</strong> gave a<br />
seminar on 24 September 2001.<br />
• Mr Felix CHAN Kwok-wai ( !"),<br />
Deputy Chairman of the International Institute<br />
of Management, <strong>and</strong> Former President of<br />
Association of Small <strong>and</strong> Medium-scale<br />
Enterprises, Hong Kong, visited the <strong>University</strong><br />
on 8 October 2001. He was received by Prof<br />
NYAW Mee-Kau, Vice-President.<br />
• Mr Peter LI, Assistant Dean for International<br />
Student Services <strong>and</strong> Foreign Scholars of West<br />
Virginia <strong>University</strong>, visited the <strong>University</strong> on 8<br />
October 2001 <strong>and</strong> discussed the student<br />
exchange matters with Prof J Barton STARR,<br />
Associate Vice-President, <strong>and</strong> Ms S<strong>and</strong>y<br />
KWOK, International Programme Officer of<br />
Office of International Programmes.<br />
• Prof Ien ANG, Director of Institute for Cultural<br />
Research, <strong>University</strong> of Western Sydney, visited<br />
the <strong>University</strong> on 12 October 2001. Prof ANG<br />
<strong>and</strong> Prof Meaghan MORRIS, Chair Professor<br />
of Cultural Studies had a meeting to discuss the<br />
collaboration between <strong>Lingnan</strong> <strong>and</strong> the<br />
<strong>University</strong> of Western Sydney. They agreed to<br />
sign a memor<strong>and</strong>um of underst<strong>and</strong>ing between<br />
<strong>Lingnan</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>and</strong> the <strong>University</strong> of<br />
Western Sydney to form a partnership for<br />
scholarly advancement in the field of Cultural<br />
Studies <strong>and</strong> Cultural Research after the meeting.<br />
• Dr Barry McCARTY, Dean of Enrollment<br />
Services of Lafayette College, visited the<br />
<strong>University</strong> on 16 October 2001 <strong>and</strong> had a<br />
meeting with Prof J Barton STARR, Associate<br />
Vice-President, on student exchange matters.<br />
• Mr Frank NG ( !"), Contributing<br />
Writer of Rmagazine, visited the <strong>University</strong> on<br />
17 October 2001. He was received by Prof<br />
NYAW Mee-Kau, Vice-President, Prof CHAN<br />
Tsang-sing, Associate Vice-President <strong>and</strong><br />
Dr Frank WONG, Head of Department of<br />

EMBA Programme offered by <strong>Lingnan</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>and</strong> other local universities.<br />
• A delegation of three senior officials from<br />
Shanghai <strong>University</strong> of Finance <strong>and</strong><br />
Economics led by Prof LIU Yongzhang (<br />
!), Vice-Chairman of the Academic<br />
Council <strong>and</strong> Deputy Party Secretary, visited the<br />
<strong>University</strong> on 24 October 2001. Other two<br />
members of the delegation were Prof FANG<br />
Hua ( !), Director of President's Office<br />
<strong>and</strong> Associate Professor of Economics, <strong>and</strong> Prof<br />
CHEN Xiao ( !), Director of Physical<br />
Education Department. They were received by<br />
Prof NYAW Mee-kau, Vice-President, Prof<br />
CHAN Tsang-sing, Associate Vice-President,<br />
Mr LI Kam-kee, Director of Administration,<br />
<strong>and</strong> Dr Maureen TAM, Director of Teaching<br />
<strong>and</strong> Learning Centre. They discussed with the<br />
visitors on university management <strong>and</strong> possible<br />
co-operation of student exchange between the<br />
two universities.<br />
• Prof OUYANG Kang ( !"), President<br />
Assistant <strong>and</strong> Director of Institute of Philosophy,<br />
Huazhong <strong>University</strong> of Science & Technology<br />
( !"#), Wuhan, China, visited the<br />
<strong>University</strong> on 8 November 2001. He was<br />
received by Prof NYAW Mee-Kau, Vice-<br />
President, Prof J Barton STARR, Associate<br />
Vice-President, <strong>and</strong> Dr ZHENG Yujian,<br />
Assistant Professor of Department of<br />
Philosophy. Both sides discussed the possibility<br />
of establishing links between the two institutions<br />
including student exchange programme.<br />
• Dr DAI Erbiao ( !"), Senior Research<br />
Fellow of The International Centre for the Study<br />
of East Asian Development (ICSEAD),<br />
Kitakyushu City, Japan (an entity in cooperation<br />
with the <strong>University</strong> of Pennysylvania)<br />
visited the <strong>University</strong> on 3 December 2001. He<br />
was received by Prof NYAW Mee-kau, Vice-<br />
President.<br />
• Prof ZHANG Suqin ( !"), Party<br />
Secretary <strong>and</strong> Executive Dean of School of<br />
Business, Harbin Commercial <strong>University</strong>, HCU,<br />
Harbin, visited the <strong>University</strong> on 5 December<br />
2001. She held discussion with Prof NYAW<br />
Mee-kau, Prof CHAN Tsang-sing <strong>and</strong> Prof<br />
LU Ming-te on the possibility of student<br />
exchange between <strong>Lingnan</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>and</strong> HCU<br />
<strong>and</strong> the admission of undergraduate students<br />
from HCU under the self-funded non-local<br />
student scheme of UGC-funded institutions.
