VISITORS
• Prof YUAN Wei ( !), Vice-President
of Renmin University of China, visited the
University on 18 September 2001. He was
received by Prof NYAW Mee-Kau, Vice-
President, Prof LU Ming-te, Director of Business
Programmes Office, and Dr ZHENG Yujian,
Assistant Professor of Department of Philosophy.
• Dr S V SRINIVAS, a Fellow of Centre for the
Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore, India
spent 4 weeks at the Department of Cultural
Studies in September. During his visit, he met
with colleagues in the department and gave a
seminar on 24 September 2001.
• Mr Felix CHAN Kwok-wai ( !"),
Deputy Chairman of the International Institute
of Management, and Former President of
Association of Small and Medium-scale
Enterprises, Hong Kong, visited the University
on 8 October 2001. He was received by Prof
NYAW Mee-Kau, Vice-President.
• Mr Peter LI, Assistant Dean for International
Student Services and Foreign Scholars of West
Virginia University, visited the University on 8
October 2001 and discussed the student
exchange matters with Prof J Barton STARR,
Associate Vice-President, and Ms Sandy
KWOK, International Programme Officer of
Office of International Programmes.
• Prof Ien ANG, Director of Institute for Cultural
Research, University of Western Sydney, visited
the University on 12 October 2001. Prof ANG
and Prof Meaghan MORRIS, Chair Professor
of Cultural Studies had a meeting to discuss the
collaboration between Lingnan and the
University of Western Sydney. They agreed to
sign a memorandum of understanding between
Lingnan University and the University of
Western Sydney to form a partnership for
scholarly advancement in the field of Cultural
Studies and Cultural Research after the meeting.
• Dr Barry McCARTY, Dean of Enrollment
Services of Lafayette College, visited the
University on 16 October 2001 and had a
meeting with Prof J Barton STARR, Associate
Vice-President, on student exchange matters.
• Mr Frank NG ( !"), Contributing
Writer of Rmagazine, visited the University on
17 October 2001. He was received by Prof
NYAW Mee-Kau, Vice-President, Prof CHAN
Tsang-sing, Associate Vice-President and
Dr Frank WONG, Head of Department of

Information Systems. They discussed about the
EMBA Programme offered by Lingnan
University and other local universities.
• A delegation of three senior officials from
Shanghai University of Finance and
Economics led by Prof LIU Yongzhang (
!), Vice-Chairman of the Academic
Council and Deputy Party Secretary, visited the
University on 24 October 2001. Other two
members of the delegation were Prof FANG
Hua ( !), Director of President's Office
and Associate Professor of Economics, and Prof
CHEN Xiao ( !), Director of Physical
Education Department. They were received by
Prof NYAW Mee-kau, Vice-President, Prof
CHAN Tsang-sing, Associate Vice-President,
Mr LI Kam-kee, Director of Administration,
and Dr Maureen TAM, Director of Teaching
and Learning Centre. They discussed with the
visitors on university management and possible
co-operation of student exchange between the
two universities.
• Prof OUYANG Kang ( !"), President
Assistant and Director of Institute of Philosophy,
Huazhong University of Science & Technology
( !"#), Wuhan, China, visited the
University on 8 November 2001. He was
received by Prof NYAW Mee-Kau, Vice-
President, Prof J Barton STARR, Associate
Vice-President, and Dr ZHENG Yujian,
Assistant Professor of Department of
Philosophy. Both sides discussed the possibility
of establishing links between the two institutions
including student exchange programme.
• Dr DAI Erbiao ( !"), Senior Research
Fellow of The International Centre for the Study
of East Asian Development (ICSEAD),
Kitakyushu City, Japan (an entity in cooperation
with the University of Pennysylvania)
visited the University on 3 December 2001. He
was received by Prof NYAW Mee-kau, Vice-
President.
• Prof ZHANG Suqin ( !"), Party
Secretary and Executive Dean of School of
Business, Harbin Commercial University, HCU,
Harbin, visited the University on 5 December
2001. She held discussion with Prof NYAW
Mee-kau, Prof CHAN Tsang-sing and Prof
LU Ming-te on the possibility of student
exchange between Lingnan University and HCU
and the admission of undergraduate students
from HCU under the self-funded non-local
student scheme of UGC-funded institutions.
