pop-beauties the Saturdays have just released their new album headlines. Listed’s ruth walker
talks to singer mollie king (far right) about fame, handling the press, and new collaborations
How would you describe your new
single Missing You?
Missing You is a power ballad with
strong lyrics and a great dance beat
behind it. But the song still maintains The
Saturdays style.
The Saturdays are nearing the top
chart position with the new single
Missing You, do you think you’ll
do the same with the new album
Headlines?
I would hope so, it would be a dream
come true. I know we’re doing really
well at the moment; we have a lot of
pre-orders for Headlines. It would be
incredible. We’ve got a really good fan
base, so I hope they all go out and buy it.
You seem to be on the go all the
time with performances and public
appearances. How do you unwind
after all that?
I just like to do normal things. I love
going out for breakfast, spending time at
home and seeing my friends and family. I
also love taking part in sport so I always
make time for it if I can.
After three years together do you
all still get along in the band?
Definitely, we know each other so well
now. I think that the girls know me
better than anyone else on the planet.
We didn’t know each other before The
Saturdays so we’ve become friends
through the band; we’ve just got closer
and closer.
What couldn’t you live without on
tour?
The one thing that I couldn’t cope
without on tour would be my mobile. I
get really homesick, so I like to be able

to call up my mum and my boyfriend
whenever I can.
If you could collaborate with
anyone who would it be?
At the moment I think it would be Jason
Derülo. I really love him.
The Saturdays undeniably have
talent but what would you say is
the secret of your success?
We’re really lucky; we’ve got a great
fan base who are really loyal. We’re not
trying to be anything other than what
we are. We’re not trying to be too cool,
just sticking at what we’re good at, and
that’s making good pop songs.
How do you deal with any negative
press that you receive?
We get it every now and then. There’s
always some negative comment on
YouTube and in the papers, but you just
have to learn to cope with it. It does
kind of knock your confidence and as
much as you try to ignore it, you can’t
help it. You just have to try and forget
about it.
Is there anything new that The
Saturdays are working on that will
get their fans excited?
We’ve recently been writing with Taio
Interview
Cruz and Alphabeat which was really
cool. That won’t be on the new album
but it’s due for release in the near future.
It’s definitely something for our fans to
look forward to.
How are you finding being filmed
for the band’s fly on the wall
documentary ‘The Saturdays: 24/7’
for ITV2?
It’s quite surreal, at first it was a bit
overwhelming but now I’ve just got used
to it. It doesn’t even feel like they’re
there anymore. But I think that’s the best
way to do it because that way you get to
see the real us and not an act.
Missing You and The Saturdays’ new
album Headlines is now out. The
Saturdays: 24/7 is showing on ITV2 and
is set to air in September.
