Inspired by the flipside of vinyl recordings
b-side Multi Media Festival 2010 offers
you the opportunity to explore our
coastal resorts with new eyes. It’s not
all kiss me quick hats, ice creams on the
esplanade and amusements. Following
its successful launch in 2008 b-side is an
ambitious, experimental, contemporary
and often quirky programme of artists’
commissions in sound, installation, visual
art and live art in unusual locations
across Weymouth & Portland.
This year b-side have commissioned
brand new work by leading artists that
will delight, amuse, inspire and provoke.
Accompany Monsieur Poopouri, his brass
band and majorettes as he makes his way
to the sea, dare to enter the I Scream
Van as it prowls along the Esplanade
and feature in your own horror movie.
Award-winning artist Liz Crowe (of recent
fourth plinth ‘fame’ in Trafalgar Square)
transforms an old school building with a
powerful and moving installation entitled

Resistance that takes you on a little
known but significant moment in history.
Dorset based artists ensemble TRIOPS
invite you to an evening of the strange
– vintage flavoured harmony, rich songs
and handmade, disturbingly gorgeous
films and magical animations, described
as a cheese induced dream but without
the cheese or the sleep!
The whole week is topped off by an
amazing large-scale panoramic projection
piece by artists Matt and Rob Vale at
the historical (and haunted!) Nothe Fort,
Weymouth. Using the unique architecture
of the Fort the Vale brothers have created
a pretty awe-inspiring piece that takes
projection work to another level.

SEaN CurLEY ExhIBITIoN
Artist Sean Curley will be exhibiting a
wide selection of his latest paintings at
the Peacock Gallery, Upton House, Poole.
Curley is entirely self-taught and the
unique style he has developed has been
compared to a Monet – Van Gogh fusion
by a previous publisher. The Peter Hedley
Gallery, Wareham, with whom he currently
exhibits in Dorset, have described his
paintings as ‘freshly painted Monet’s.’
Sean currently exhibits primarily in
London and the surrounding area in
galleries such as Wimbledon Fine Art,
the Kew Gallery, and with his fine art
publisher, Infinartum, at their gallery
in Crowthorne, Berkshire. He has also
exhibited extensively in the Republic of
Ireland and in France.
The exhibition runs from 24th
September 2010 to 8th October 2010.
Sean will be present at the gallery which
will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm
every day. All paintings will be for sale at
‘artist studio’ prices and admission is free.

BrIdgET rILEY: FLaShBaCk
Bridget Riley is one of the UK’s most
influential contemporary artists, known
for her distinctive and optically vibrant
paintings that generate sensations of
movement, light and space. Flashback
tracks her career from its beginnings in
the early 1960s, to the ambitious and
powerful works of recent years. Eight
large scale paintings will be on show,
with four coming from Riley’s personal
collection. These are complemented by
30 works on paper that illuminate the
working methods she has employed over
her five-decade-long career. Many of
these drawings and sketches have never
been seen before.
Bridget Riley: Flashback is at
Southampton City Art Gallery from 16th
September until 5th December.
