The Art House<br />

The Art House Gallery Café is a Southampton non-profit ‘Community Interest Company’,<br />

formed in 2008 by four like-minded eco-centrics with a passion for art, <strong>com</strong>munity,<br />

and above all, cake. A volunteer run, multi-disciplinary arts venue and café in the heart<br />

of Southampton’s evolving cultural quarter, The Art House is a wel<strong>com</strong>ing, vibrant<br />

and quirky <strong>com</strong>munity space serving delicious, organic food and drink in inspiring<br />

surroundings. The walls are filled with art by local artists and groups, and there is a<br />

packed events calendar.<br />

Southampton poetry lovers will have plenty of chances to indulge their passion at The<br />

Art House. On Friday 17 September is Moving Voices, an open mic night, open to all<br />

poets and musicians. A mixture of original and well-known work is on offer, from the<br />

serious to the downright silly; and if you’re not up for performing you will be made very<br />

wel<strong>com</strong>e as part of an appreciative audience. Entry is by donation, with money going<br />

towards the running of the venue. On Wednesday 29 September the Southampton Poetry<br />

Stanza group will meet to give poets the opportunity to get together for critical and<br />

constructive <strong>com</strong>ment on their work. Bring eight printed copies of poems and/or a pair<br />

of ears to this friendly group. The group meets on the last Wednesday of every month,<br />

and new members are always very wel<strong>com</strong>e. Again, entry is by donation towards The Art<br />
