The Art House Gallery Café is a Southampton non-profit ‘Community Interest Company’,
formed in 2008 by four like-minded eco-centrics with a passion for art, community,
and above all, cake. A volunteer run, multi-disciplinary arts venue and café in the heart
of Southampton’s evolving cultural quarter, The Art House is a welcoming, vibrant
and quirky community space serving delicious, organic food and drink in inspiring
surroundings. The walls are filled with art by local artists and groups, and there is a
packed events calendar.
Southampton poetry lovers will have plenty of chances to indulge their passion at The
Art House. On Friday 17 September is Moving Voices, an open mic night, open to all
poets and musicians. A mixture of original and well-known work is on offer, from the
serious to the downright silly; and if you’re not up for performing you will be made very
welcome as part of an appreciative audience. Entry is by donation, with money going
towards the running of the venue. On Wednesday 29 September the Southampton Poetry
Stanza group will meet to give poets the opportunity to get together for critical and
constructive comment on their work. Bring eight printed copies of poems and/or a pair
of ears to this friendly group. The group meets on the last Wednesday of every month,
and new members are always very welcome. Again, entry is by donation towards The Art
