Protecting the environment and biodiversity, and its corollary–minimizing the potentially undesirable impacts of tourism,<br />

including greenhouse gas emissions–is one of the pillars of sustainable tourism. In recent years, with the enthusiastic<br />

support of all its employees, <strong>Transat</strong> has considerably stepped up efforts in this regard. A number of programs have been<br />

initiated, some of them under the auspices of a dozen task forces, located in each of the geographical sites where we<br />

have permanent facilities.<br />

In terms of sustainability, one of our first tasks has been to<br />

work on the management of resources. Having noted that<br />

some existing recycling programs were incomplete or underperforming,<br />

we implemented new reduction, reuse and<br />

recycling initiatives, which quickly generated tangible results.<br />

At the same time, we began the complex task of drawing<br />

up a comprehensive environmental baseline, with an eye to<br />

quantifying objectives and facilitating long-term planning.<br />

To this end, we sought and obtained the collaboration of our<br />

building owners, which of course is essential to the process.<br />
