Why I Give...
Charlie Simons ’67, P ’14
Charlie’s ties to Westminster are long and deep. His
mother, Eloise, graduated from Washington Seminary
in 1939, and his daughter Cat is a seventh grader.
Charlie credits Westminster with many things, but is
most thankful for and feels most influenced by one of
his teachers, David Lauderdale. “He was famous for his
Shakespeare lectures, but even more importantly his
interest in and support of his students benefitted me
tremendously.”
Charlie made his first “major” gift to Westminster at
age 28 in order to establish the Lauderdale room in the
old boys’ school, Campbell Hall. The gift holds special
significance for him as it was the first named classroom
at Westminster. He also thought the gift was important
“because it showed that younger alumni could give
substantial gifts to the school.” Charlie also recognizes
the importance of annual giving. “I support annual giving
because my gifts are unrestricted. The school has the
knowledge to best allocate the funds where needed.”
For those who are considering making a gift to
Westminster, Charlie’s message is clear. “Westminster is
the wonderful school that it is because of all the people
through all the years who have donated their time, efforts,
and financial support. This work continues with the
current generation of parents, alumni, and friends. The
work is not finished!”
