2. Market<strong>in</strong>g Plan<br />

Identify your target market (your potential customers). Who are you sell<strong>in</strong>g to or who<br />

will buy your product or service What is the size <strong>of</strong> the group If there are segments<br />

or divisions <strong>of</strong> the target market, describe them by geography, demographics and<br />

psychological factors.<br />

How will you reach your market Describe how you will get the customer to purchase<br />

your product or service. State your sales strategy, pric<strong>in</strong>g policy, promotional ideas, and<br />

advertis<strong>in</strong>g campaign. How are you reach<strong>in</strong>g your target market Radio, pr<strong>in</strong>t, flyers,<br />

TV, etc. If you plan to <strong>of</strong>fer customer service, expla<strong>in</strong>. This could <strong>in</strong>clude guarantees,<br />

warranties, repairs, special services, delivery and <strong>in</strong>stallation. Sample promotional material<br />

could be <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> this section.<br />

Competitive analysis is necessary to evaluate the bus<strong>in</strong>ess play<strong>in</strong>g field and identify a<br />

niche for your product or service. List your four major competitors by name. Describe their<br />

strengths and weaknesses. How will you compete aga<strong>in</strong>st established bus<strong>in</strong>esses State<br />

your competitive advantage. Can you deliver a higher or better quality service than your<br />

competitors<br />

3. Organization Plan<br />

Discuss the ownership <strong>of</strong> the bus<strong>in</strong>ess and the legal structure. Include legal agreements<br />

such as articles <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>corporation or partnership agreements. List the skills and experience<br />

you br<strong>in</strong>g to the bus<strong>in</strong>ess, especially management experience. Include a resume. Expla<strong>in</strong><br />

how the bus<strong>in</strong>ess will be managed on a day-to-day basis. Discuss <strong>in</strong>surance, the lease<br />

or any rental agreements. How will your bus<strong>in</strong>ess records be ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed How will you<br />

compensate yourself List bus<strong>in</strong>ess consultants such as a lawyer, CPA and <strong>in</strong>surance<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional. Expla<strong>in</strong> the personnel needed to run the bus<strong>in</strong>ess. List job titles, duties and<br />

wages. Discuss how you will hire your employees and expla<strong>in</strong> personnel procedures. List<br />

benefits such as group health <strong>in</strong>surance and the costs.<br />

4. F<strong>in</strong>ancial Plan<br />

Too many entrepreneurs try to start and operate a bus<strong>in</strong>ess without enough money.<br />

Request enough f<strong>in</strong>anc<strong>in</strong>g to cover all anticipated start-up costs, plus enough work<strong>in</strong>g<br />

capital to meet all monthly operat<strong>in</strong>g expenses, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the loan payment, for the first six<br />

months.<br />
