May 11, 1909<br />

A Committee from the Scottish Societies took up with the<br />

Military Authorities at Ottawa the matter <strong>of</strong> the formation<br />

<strong>of</strong> a Highland Regiment.<br />

November 24, 1910<br />

Authorization obtained for the formation <strong>of</strong> a Highland<br />

Regiment.<br />

February 3, 1911<br />

The Regiment was gazetted as &quot;The <strong>72nd</strong> <strong>Highlanders</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Canada</strong>&quot;; afterwards ante-dated to November 24th, 1910.<br />

April 5, 1911-<br />

Authorization obtained for affiliation <strong>of</strong> Regiment with<br />

the <strong>Seaforth</strong> <strong>Highlanders</strong>.<br />

March 27, 1912<br />

Final ratification <strong>of</strong> Canadian Military authorities received<br />

in letter <strong>of</strong> this date from Ottawa, adding that the King<br />

approves <strong>of</strong> the <strong>72nd</strong> <strong>Highlanders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> being desig<br />

nated the &quot;<strong>72nd</strong> <strong>Seaforth</strong> <strong>Highlanders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Canada</strong>.&quot;<br />

June 22, 1911<br />

First public appearance <strong>of</strong> the Regiment on Coronation<br />

Day, service being held at Recreation Park.<br />

August 1, 1911-<br />

First inspection <strong>of</strong> the Regiment by Colonel Wadmore.<br />

Spring, 1912<br />

Regiment went into training on Vancouver Island.<br />

July 4, 1912<br />

Regiment visited Tacoma, Wash., as guests <strong>of</strong> the citizens<br />

on the occasion <strong>of</strong> the Montamara Festival.<br />

September 19, 1912<br />

Review <strong>of</strong> Regiment at Brockton Point by the Governor-<br />

General, H. R. H. the Duke <strong>of</strong> Connaught, who presented<br />

the Regiment with its colours the gift <strong>of</strong> the Imperial<br />

Order Daughters <strong>of</strong> the Empire.<br />

Spring, 1913<br />

Trained at Sydney, Vancouver Island, and was inspected by<br />

Sir Ian Hamilton.<br />

June 23, 1913<br />

Regiment inspected by Gen. Colin Mackenzie.<br />

Autumn, 1913<br />

Regiment called out to aid civil power during strike in<br />

Nanaimo district. A detachment remained there till called<br />

back for mobilization for active service in August, 1914.<br />
