How to book
and other useful information
Booking is essential even
for self-conducted visits
To book:
• Go to our website www.ashmolean.
org/education/aboutus/booking
and complete an online enquiry
form. Please note that completing
this form is not a booking. We
will reply to your enquiry within 3
working days.
• Email education.service@ashmus.
ox.ac.uk
• Phone 01865 278015. The bookings
and information line is normally open
Monday to Friday. Outside these
hours, or if the phone is busy, please
leave a message and we will reply
as soon as possible. PLEASE NOTE:
This phone line can get very busy.
We advise that, if possible, enquires
are made by email.
Lunchroom
Groups can book a 30 minute slot in the
new lunch room. The lunchroom can
accommodate a maximum of 30 pupils
plus staff.
Spaces are limited so please book in
advance. The lunchroom is free but
a voluntary donation of £5 per group
would be very welcome.
Coats and bags
There are pegs and boxes for bags and
coats available in the Education Centre.
Costs
All our school sessions are FREE but
if your school can afford it a voluntary
donation for each activity helps us
continue to develop and deliver our
programmes. We make a charge for
some of our teachers courses but many
are offered free of charge
Donations can be made on the day by
cash or cheque (made payable to ‘The
Ashmolean Museum’) or by credit card
via our website www.ashmolean.org/

Cancellation policy
A cancellation fee may be requested
if you fail to let us know you won’t be
coming less than 2 weeks (14 days)
before you visit.
Special educational needs
All our activities can be adapted for
children with special educational needs.
We are pleased to welcome special
school groups and to support children
with special needs who are integrated in
to mainstream schools.
Talk to us about your needs when you
book.
Two site visits
Some groups may benefit from visiting
more than one museum or site in
Oxford e.g. Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford
University Museum of Natural History,
Museum of the History of Science and
the Botanic Garden. This can work well
for exploring some themes e.g. Image
and Identity, Pattern Shape and Form,
Colour, World Religions, Animals,
Ancient Egypt, Materials.

Adult Supervision
All children must be supervised at all
times by a responsible adult. We ask
for a minimum of 1 adult to 10 children.
Please bring 3 adults for our Taught
Gallery Activities.

Code of Conduct
A copy of the museum rules will be sent
with your booking confirmation. This is
also available to download on our web
pages. Please make sure you share this
with your accompanying adults and
children.
Risk assessment
A generic risk assessment for group
visits will be sent with your booking
confirmation. This is available on
our web pages to download. This is
intended as a framework for groups to
create their own risk assessment to meet
the specific needs of their group.
Art materials in the galleries
Children are welcome to draw in the
galleries. To protect objects on open
display we ask that only pencils are
used. No pens are allowed.
Shop
School groups are welcome to use the
shop but because of space restrictions
we ask for no more than 10 students
in the shop at once. Children must be
supervised at all times.
