4. SPECIFIC PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
4.1. General
4.1.1. The GAC shall be capable of removing COD from membrane
permeate (MP). The GAC shall be made from selected grades of
bituminous coal capable of withstanding repeated backwash
procedures without significant change in physical sizes and shall
be suitable for thermal reactivation and re-use. Only coal-based
GAC will be acceptable.
4.2. Manufacturers and Products
4.2.1. GAC shall be:
4.2.1.1. Filtrasorb 300 by Calgon Carbon Corporation.
4.2.1.2. GAC300 by Norit Americas, Inc.
4.2.1.3. Westates – UltraCarb 830 by Siemens
4.2.2. No substitutes allowed.
4.3. Manufacturer’s Qualifications
4.3.1. Manufacturers shall have a minimum of fifteen (15) years
experience manufacturing coal-based GAC for municipal water
and wastewater treatment applications and shall submit proof in
the form of a Manufacturer’s Certificate and/or Affidavit of
Compliance.
4.3.2. Manufacturer shall certify that it is the owner and operator of a
reactivation facility.
4.3.3. Manufacturer must certify the source of coal, the carbon
manufacturing location, and the agglomeration/thermal process.
4.4. Service Conditions
4.4.1. Number of Contactors: 6
4.4.2. Number of Cells per Contactor: 2
4.4.3. Surface Area per Cell: 403 ft 2
4.4.4. Volume GAC per Cell - Bed depth of 11 feet: 4,443 ft 3
4.4.5. Working Temperature: 45 to 75 degrees F
4.4.6. Working pH: 6 to 8
4.4.7. Working Pressure: 0 to 15 psig
4.5. Product Specifications
4.5.1. The GAC shall be procured from coal mined in North America.
