BBS Students Enjoy
Science Day, 2009
Wednesday, the 20th of May, (one of the best days
for BSB in 2009), was KS1 and KS2 Science Day. The
weather was gorgeous as students visited different
science activities run by KS1 and KS2 teachers. In
the morning, students rotated through four stations.
Some of the stations that students went to were
Colours and Colour Dye, Reaction Time, Forces
Adventure, Water Filters, Minibeast Hunt, How Hot
Are You?, Water Circus and Let’s Make Ice Cream!
A Science Symposium was also held in the
afternoon, where students presented science
projects that they had been working on
independently. The day was brought to a close as
each house team worked with physics, by using
only one piece of paper and a meter of tape to
make the tallest tower possible that could stand
on its own. Mures won! We would all like to thank
Ms Ullman for the hard work she put in planning
Science Day.

Year 4 Science
Science in Year 4 has been very exciting. We have
had to design experiments to test the melting
points of solids, which material is the best thermal
insulator and which materials are electrical
conductors.
Mena, Calista, Ethan and Alessandro from 4H work
together to design an experiment that will test whether
or not certain materials are electrical conductors.
It has been a challenge to make sure that all of our
scientific investigations are fair tests. In the end we
usually have to record and graph our conclusions
and discuss whether our predictions were correct.

Stefanos testing different liquids to see if they will

did not.

KS1 Mixing Colours
I liked mixing colours in the colour laboratory.
We learnt what a spectrum is. Ilayda, 1J
I enjoyed most the cleaning cola because it
was fun to collect sand and stones to put in
the bottle. I also enjoyed experimenting with
food colouring to make new colours. Boris, 1H
My favourite part of Science Day was the
Forces races, even though my team didn't
always win! Isabella, 2B
My favourite thing on Science Day was ice
cream making because we made ice cream.
Mine was too salty, but I still liked it. Next
time I’m going to be more careful how I make
it so it doesn’t taste like salt. Pelin, 3L
I really enjoyed Science Day. My favourite
event was the ‘Mini-Beast Hunt’ because
my friend and I found interesting bugs. We
also got to use the digital microscope to take
photos and see the mini-beasts up-close. I
also liked when Gaya and Anna-Illinca from
4K taught us that cats sleep 18 hours a day.

KS1 Making Water Filters
I enjoyed making ice-cream in a bag. I learned
that when you put salt onto ice, the ice freezes
at a lower temperature. Sasha, 5B
I liked Science Day. My favourite activity was
making ice cream with Mr Davidson and Ms
Ullman. We learned that rock salt will bring
down the freezing temperature of ice so it is
cold enough to freeze the ingredients to make
ice cream. At the end we got to eat the ice
