BSB Sports Day,
2009
Obviously the first thing to
mention about this year’s
Sports Day is the weather...
It has been kind to us on many occasions this
year, however our luck was due to run out and
down it came. Before the rain we did manage to
get through about half of the programme. To the
uninitiated there were 3 different competitions all
running together at one time. Foundation and KS
1 entertained us with their performances on their
eight stations – each one representing some of the
work the children have been doing in PE this year.
KS 2’s Sports Day itself comprised of two elements
– Individual Competitions (where they had the
choice between picking Sprinting, the High Jump or
the Cricket ball Throw) and House Team Activities.
All of the KS 2 sports were based around the three
traditional Athletics events of running, jumping
and throwing. The Secondary School pupils had
to choose at least three out of four events in which
to take part – the 100m, the 400m, the High Jump
and the Shot Putt and it was great to see from a PE
perspective how many actually chose to compete in
all four events.

Back at BSB we had some unfinished business
to complete. First off was the Secondary events,
luckily there was no problem accommodating the
remaining competitions although the 4x100m
Relays took some working out.
A special mention must go out to Year 10s Eduardo
who ended the day winning 4 individual Gold
Medals plus another one in the Secondary Boys
4x100m race, great effort. Foundation and KS 1
were next , while all children love to race I think it
is especially true of our younger pupils so much
so that after the serious race had been run they all
stayed behind to race again for sheer enjoyment.
Years 3 and 4 completed their House Team Activities
on the front grass the following day meanwhile
Years 5 and 6 got on with their Individual running,
throwing or jumping events. Afterwards came the
Years 3 and 4 8x50m Mixed Relay Race and the
Years 5 and 6 8x50m Mixed Relay Race.
From a personal point of view it was a shame that
the team relay races were not run at the stadium.
It’s a great Finale to Sports Day when we see each
team work to get the baton all the way around the
track, but as they say there’s always next year.
Well done to all those who took part, even if you
did not go home with a medal you should at least
be proud of representing and contributing to your
House team on the day and also a huge thank you
from the PE department for the support from our
maintence staff we couldn’t have done it without
you!
