problem in general practice
and 11% of men and 27%
of women aged 60 years
or over are osteoporotic.
Only 7–20% of patients
who have sustained
an osteoporotic fracture
receive treatment for
osteoporosis to prevent
further fractures. *

How can general practice manage
these conditions better
The RACGP Clinical guidelines for the management
of musculoskeletal diseases are now available from
www.racgp.org.au/guidelines
To support the practice team implementing these
guidelines, a range of activities which are specific to these
conditions have been developed. These include:
• PDSA activities using the Clinical Audit Tool
• check Programs on osteoporosis, osteoarthritis,
and rheumatoid arthritis/juvenile idiopathic arthritis
• an online learning activity (gplearning)
• small group learning modules for the practice team
• a clinical audit
• a practice nurse guide
• a GP Network resource.
