Celebrating its Golden Jubilee

2009 marks the 50th Anniversary of the involvement of Polish
students and Employers in the International programme of
internships through IAESTE. From the very beginning we focused
on the highest quality of service, conscientiously achieving our
main aims through promoting International appreciation and
goodwill.
The Polish Committee of IAESTE was established in 1957 by
Professor Janusz Tymowski from Warsaw University of Technology
and shortly after IAESTE Poland became an Associate Member
of the IAESTE family. In 1959 during the Annual Conference in
Turkey, Poland was accepted as a Full Member in IAESTE.
At the beginning of our activity, IAESTE Poland was part of the
only one, legal student’s Organisation in Poland – ZSP (The
Polish Students Union). In those days, it was not easy to travel
abroad, especially to western European countries, so we had to
co-operate with the state-controlled Tourist Agency – Almatur.
That was the only way to be granted passports and cross the
Polish border. The Polish IAESTE Committee was a window on
the world!
Nowadays, IAESTE Poland is gaining a new role in its history by
partnering with Companies, especially in the field of relationships
between Industry, technical students and well-qualified
Engineers.
From the beginning of IAESTE Poland’s existence we have
hosted over 12,000 students from 60 countries. At present
IAESTE Poland organises about 300 internships for foreign
students and co-operates with over 250 Companies from all
over Poland making it one of the biggest IAESTE countries to
send and receive students.
For our Golden Jubilee celebrations we plan to issue a special
edition of the monograph about the history and the greatest
achievements of IAESTE Poland. Moreover, a special exhibition
will be presented at the main Polish Academic Centres,
accompanied by numerous events organised by our Local
Committees. The most significant event of our celebrations was
hosting the 62nd Annual IAESTE Conference, which gathered
together over 250 International guests from 77 countries from
all over the world.

The 50th Anniversary Celebrations were held
in the main Hall of Warsaw University of Technology
and began with these words,
“50 years ago, at this University,
Professor Tymowski founded IAESTE
Poland. We are more than happy that
tonight we can celebrate our Golden
Jubilee with all of you. IAESTE Poland
would not exist without great people
and some of them are here with us
tonight.”
