widen their personal horizons for a better global understanding.
The second main Sponsor, besides the University of Ghent was
DEME, a Civil Engineering Company with a focus on dredging.
They gave a short presentation on their work throughout the
world. A wonderful buffet followed and everybody agreed that it
would have been a shame not to have tasted the French fries with
mayonnaise along with asparagus and of course the chocolate
fountain and waffles in different variations. After the productive
Workshops the next day we had the chance to experience more
of Belgium’s culture, with highlights including a boat trip and a
visit to a chocolate manufacturer, which of course included a
tasting session.
On Saturday, after the hard work participants were rewarded by
the traditional International Evening, again with a huge selection
of food and drink from all over the world and of course the large
variety of Belgian beers.
In the end everybody experienced a productive and inspiring
SID, discovered a new culture and returned with the feeling that
they had contributed to the future of IAESTE but also with the
knowledge that this needs to be continued over the year.
