IAESTE TUNISIA
Fifty years in IAESTE
Mr Tahar Friaa
National Secretary
IAESTE Tunisia
16
We are extremely proud to announce that IAESTE Tunisia is
celebrating half a century of existence this year. Soon after the
independence of Tunisia, an Organisation such as IAESTE was
able to be founded in Tunisia with the aim of sharing practical
and professional experience in order to consolidate the image of
a tolerant Tunisia. Thus, in 1959, Tunisia joined the IAESTE family
and became a Full Member in 1989.
In April 2004, the Seminar on IAESTE Development (SID) moved
for the first time out of Europe to North Africa to Tunis. IAESTE
Tunisia accepted the challenge and welcomed 58 delegates from
25 countries.
During the General Conference of Colombia in 2005, The National
School of Engineering (ENIT), the supporting Organisation of
IAESTE Tunisia, became a Founding Member of IAESTE A.s.b.l.
For more than 50 years, several generations of IAESTE Tunisia
volunteers have multiplied their efforts to improve their way of
working, including the organisation and communication with all
foreign Committees and National partners: IAESTE Tunisia has
sent 2260 students aboard, received 1531 and co-operated with
more than 54 countries.
With only the National Committee of IAESTE operating in Tunisia,
composed of a National Secretary and about twenty volunteer
students from ENIT, we can exchange every year around 100
placements. We try, on the other hand, to do our best to offer to
the incoming trainees the best conditions during their internships.
It is always a pleasure to hear their encouraging feedback. In fact,
the majority of foreign trainees appreciate the trips, the cultural
and social events arranged by our Committee, especially the
eternal “south trip” which includes a visit to the desert.
There is no doubt that IAESTE has had a great influence on
our lives in one way or another. It offers to everyone involved in
the programme the opportunity to enhance their personal and
professional development, to be in touch with different countries
and different cultures. So we would like to express our sincere
gratitude to all IAESTE Committees, Co-operating Institutions
and participating Employers who have relied on us and have
participated in building this incredible and unique experience.
Finally, we look forward to another 50 successful years for
IAESTE Tunisia.
