New Chapter One Wristwatch
Features Breakthrough Technology
According to the manufacturer of Chapter One,
Maîtres du Temps, no other wristwatch has featured
a tourbillon with mono-pusher column wheel chronograph,
retrograde date, and retrograde GMT, as
well as moon phase and day of the week on their
own rolling bars. Efficiently transmitting power 90°
to the two rollers and ensuring they work simultaneously
with all functions was an immense technical
challenge. However, the ease of both reading and
adjusting Chapter One’s many indications disguises
the fact that it is a world’s first combination of complications
crafted from 558 components.
only 10 years ago,” he says. For
Speake-Marin, Chapter One
by Maîtres du Temps is the
perfect medium through
which to express his
experience of the
historical tradition
of fine watchmaking
and
to convey his
belief in its
future.
A second
offering,
Chapter
Two, is a
collaboration
of
Daniel Roth
and Peter
Speake-Marin.
This wristwatch
features
a large date
with the day and
month on Maîtres
du Temps iconic
rollers, making it one of the
more legible triple calendar
mechanical wristwatches now
available.
From a design standpoint, the circles
within circles are balanced by the juxtaposition
of the rectangular forms of the
two roller indications. The long, flowing
compound curves traverse the case while
a laser-pierced moon and stars on the
outer roller of the moon phase indicator
add to the design.
The Chapter One watch was crafted by
two watchmakers: English watchmaker,
Peter Speake-Marin, and Master Watchmaker,
Christophe Claret, of the Geneva
School of Watchmaking. Mr. Speake-
Marin believes, in order for horological
artistry to flourish, watchmakers must be
aware of the past and conscious of the
wealth of new possibilities offered by
the future. “New design and manufacturing
technologies allow a fresh scope for
different forms that were unimaginable
