RESOURCE ESTIMATION, REPORTING AND RISK MODELLING
Training for executives
Objective
2-day course
This two-day seminar aims at achieving an understanding at a theoretical and practical level about the development
of resource models and the rules for achieving quality output. It will provide:
An understanding of key concepts in resource estimation,
Do’s and don’ts of resource estimation based on practical examples,
An understanding of different levels of feasibility studies and the notion of recoverable resource,
Introduction to resource reporting codes such as JORC, NI 43-101, rules, criteria, developments,
Overview of project valuation techniques and how to account for project risk.
By the end of this seminar participants should have a high level understanding of key resources evaluation concepts,
market reporting codes and resource project valuations techniques.
Who should attend
The content of the course and the wide experience of the trainers aims to address a large audience of professionals
involved in the estimation or the analysis of mining resource estimates and their reporting to the markets (business
analysts, resource auditors in mining companies, banks, advisory firms, etc.).
Course contents
Our Trainers
Olivier Bertoli - Geovariances
Consulting and Training Manager - Mining Sector
Olivier’s high-level training in applied mathematics, mining engineering and geostatistics from
the Paris School of Mines is broadened by 17 years practical experience as a professional
geostatistician. These include five years as technical director of Tenzing Pty Ltd. Olivier who
specialises in staff training in the form of hands-on co-piloting sessions, has specific expertise in
advanced geostatistical modelling including non-linear methods, conditional simulations,
multivariate analysis and non-stationary modelling. Olivier also has extensive experience in the
application of geostatistical techniques to coal resource modelling, gained through project work
for Anglo Coal, BMA, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Xstrata Coal since 2003.
Gerry Fahey - CSA Global UK
Executive Director and Resource and Mine Geology Training Supervisor
Gerry is a geologist with over 35 years experience in the minerals industry following a few
years in petroleum. He is a specialist in mining geology, mine development and operational
training. He gained solid underground production experience while working as a Mine
Geologist in the Irish base- metals industry on projects such as Tynagh, Avoca, Ladys Well
Barite Mine and finally, for almost six years in a senior role at Tara Mines (Navan) for Noranda
and Outokumpu. On immigrating to Australia in 1988, Gerry gained further operational
experience in Western Australia and the Northern Territory (Whim Creek and Dominion
Mining). As Chief Geologist Mining for Delta Gold/AurionGold he gained extensive resource,
mine development and feasibility study experience on such projects as Kanowna Belle and
Sunrise in Australia and Ngezi Platinum in Zimbabwe.
Gerry has been a Director of CSA since 2006 and heads up our Resources and Mine Geology
division. Gerry is a member of the Joint Ore Reserve Committee (JORC) and a Board Member
(Federal Councilor) for the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG).
Malcolm Titley - CSA Global UK
Executive Director and Resource and Mine Geology Training Supervisor
Malcolm has over 30 years experience in the minerals industry both in production (20 yrs) and
as a consultant (10 yrs) to various mining companies. He started his career in iron ore working
in both exploration and production for Hamersley Iron, now Rio Tinto. He moved to gold in
the late 80’s in senior positions with Metana Minerals and Newmont before a change to
consulting in 1991 with BHP Engineering. As a consultant, Malcolm was exposed to a variety of
projects and commodities for both BHP and external clients. Malcolm's expertise is in resource
estimation, mine planning, audits and evaluations and he has been a Mine Manager and has a
