BARNEY BARNBROOK MUSIC IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP SAT 19 MAY
10am – 4pm @ St. Mary’s Performing Arts Centre, Queen St, Moruya.
This workshop is designed for people who have a basic understanding of
musicianship, but would like skills in Celtic, Rock and Blues improvisation.
Knowledge of D, E and A pentatonic scales required. The day will cover vertical
and horizontal (modal) improv. These will then be implemented in settings from
traditional to avant-garde and include transposition. The workshop will be aimed at
players of orchestral instruments and keyboards (byo keyboard) but all instruments
are welcome.

OIL PAINTING SEASCAPES WORKSHOP SAT 19 MAY
with Margaret Moran
10am – 4pm @ MACS Cottage, Narooma (Limited places available Max 8)
Participants will learn techniques for capturing the characteristics of the surf and
shoreline in oils, using a technique that does not require the use of vaporising
mediums such as turps.
Margaret has over 30 years’ experience, has won over 150 awards and has
been finalist in many prestigious competitions. Her work can be viewed at

ARTIST BOOKS with Jennifer Hawkins SAT 26 MAY
10am – 4pm @ MACS Cottage, Narooma (Limited places available Max 6)
Participants will learn to make at least one style of hand-made and hand bound, or
stitched, artist’s book. We will cover some of the pitfalls: how to stop glued papers
from curling; how to stop a stitched book from unravelling. For ideas you will see
a range of made books and some texts. A materials list will be issued, but most
equipment will be supplied.

PASTEL PAINTING with Bethany Thurtell SUN 20 MAY
10am – 4pm @ MACS Cottage, Narooma (Limited places available Max 8)
Participants will learn how to use the characteristics of pastels to create a realistic painting from
a still life arrangement. They will use elements of composition and colour interaction to make a
successful painting. The day allows for individual attention as numbers are restricted. The workshop
is suitable for beginners and those experienced with painting.
Bethany is an award-winning artist with a passion for sharing her knowledge of art and painting
techniques and encouraging others to discover their own creativity. She has been using pastels for
a number of years to create paintings of many different subjects. Bethany enjoys the immediacy of
pastels, enjoys creating different effects with the medium and is dedicated to her own art practice.
She has conducted several pastel and oil workshops throughout the area. She ran a successful
pastel workshop in 2011 for the River of Art and is anticipating another fun day in collaboration with

LIFE DRAWING with Janet Jones SUN 27 MAY
10am – 4pm @ MACS Cottage, Narooma (Limited places available Max 8)
Working from a live model, the participants will learn techniques used in life drawing to improve
observation and drawing skills.
Janet worked as a freelance illustrator in London and Sydney, including working on a series
of watercolour illustrations for official limited edition posters for the Sydney Olympics. As an
accomplished fine artist, Janet has been a finalist in prestigious competitions and has won many
awards. She has also been commissioned to paint many portraits, landscapes and drawings. Her
