Beginning Oct. 22, 2007, the <strong>report</strong>er began releasing all <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Court</strong>’s opinions as slip opinions by posting them on the Web site.<br />

<strong>The</strong> fully edited versions are then published in the <strong>Ohio</strong> Official Reports<br />

advance sheets approximately four to six weeks later (see story on page<br />

45).<br />

Law Library<br />

<strong>The</strong> Law Library <strong>of</strong>fers research assistance and online database access<br />

to <strong>Court</strong> staff and public patrons. In 2007, the library served more<br />

than 6,000 public patrons, answered nearly 10,000 reference questions,<br />

circulated more than 1,500 books, provided more than 60,000<br />

photocopies, and assisted the state’s prison population, responding<br />

to 2,513 letters requesting research help or documents for which the<br />

library provided about 60,000 additional photocopies.<br />

Additionally, the staff checked in and distributed more than 24,000<br />

items, and processed more than 18,000 item records from the library’s<br />

collection <strong>of</strong> materials.<br />

In 2007, the Law Library moved its administrative <strong>of</strong>fices from the<br />

10 th to the 12 th Floor <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ohio</strong> Judicial Center, thereby providing a<br />

more cohesive and consolidated presence for <strong>Court</strong> staff and public<br />

patrons.<br />

Further, Law Library staff members continue their involvement with<br />

projects, associations and committees outside the <strong>Court</strong>, including the<br />

Columbus and <strong>Ohio</strong> Bar associations, the <strong>Ohio</strong> Library Support Staff<br />

Institute, <strong>Ohio</strong> Law Libraries Consortium, <strong>Ohio</strong> Regional Association<br />

<strong>of</strong> Law Libraries, American Association <strong>of</strong> Law Libraries and the <strong>Ohio</strong><br />

Electronic Records Committee.<br />

Case Mediation Section<br />

In 2007, the Case Mediation Section reviewed 179 cases with a<br />

primary focus on state and local tax cases, workers’ compensation<br />

matters and extraordinary writs. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Court</strong> referred 93 <strong>of</strong> these cases<br />

to mediation and the section cleared 91 cases, 26 <strong>of</strong> which the parties<br />

settled after one or more mediation conferences with the <strong>Court</strong>’s<br />

mediation counsel. <strong>The</strong> mediation counsel conducted 125 mediation<br />

conferences in the referred cases.<br />
