We have all dreamed of the dental office that combines
functionality, advanced technology and visual appeal
for ourselves and our patients. With the help of Patterson
Dental, Summit Dentistry was launched with these
ideals in mind. Dr. Michael Salyzyn, principal of
Summit Dentistry reflected that
“After 20 years of practicing the same old procedures, day in and day out in a dated facility, it was time to
embrace the future and offer our patients something unique”. Patterson was there from the onset with ideas
and information. Their expertise was combined with that of a talented team of architects from Lydon Lynch
of Halifax.
The architects were responsible for colours/textiles/furniture and the design of the reception area including
millwork. Patterson was responsible for the clinical areas. “This was an example of how two different companies
can work together for a common goal” says Dr Salyzyn.
The other interesting fact was that no old equipment from my previous office was utilized so that we
could start with a clean design slate. The space is approximately 3600 square feet and is comprised of
10 operatories. Three doctors’ ops and 3 hygiene ops were originally installed using all A-dec 500 and
Cascade chairs and equipment. Each op is fully digital with Sirona sensors and Sirona Orthophos Panoramic.
The addition of digital radiography has been one of the major improvements along with our Cerec AC and
bluecam. We have also added a Sirona soft tissue laser and recently a ER-Yag hard tissue laser. Within six
months of opening we have added two more dentists and two more treatment rooms including a Sirona C5+
ambidextrous unit. “ The Sirona room is straight out of a sci-fi movie and a lot of fun to use. I will definitely
look toward adding more Sirona products for our final two rooms” says Dr. Salyzyn.
Although this required a considerable capital outlay, there is more enjoyment in the work day knowing that
the environment and the technology enable the delivery of standard of care to be proud of.
