ARGUS Presence – the functional
principle
Installed on the ceiling of a room, the
ARGUS presence detector detects
the presence of persons in a range
of Ø 8 m (if installed at a height of
2.50 m) and simultaneously measures
the intensity of the natural light. If the
ambient light drops below a predefined
threshold, the slightest movements in
the room will automatically activate the
lighting via the first channel. However,
if there is enough ambient light or the
ARGUS no longer detects a presence,
the presence detector will switch the
light off again, thus saving costs. The
second channel controls all the
systems connected to it, such as heating,
ventilation or alarm systems, independently
of the first channel. Thus,
for example, the ventilation/heating will
stay on while the light is switched off
due to adequate outside brightness.
ARGUS Presence Detector System
For complete monitoring of large rooms
or long corridors. Up to 8 sensor heads
can be switched in series. This makes
it possible to monitor corridors up to
64 m long and control them in a
targeted way. For use in open-plan
offices, it is possible to combine pushbuttons
for manual operation of the
lighting via an extension input.

Brightness-independent.
Only several movements within a
period of time lead to the light being
switched on.
ON times infinitely adjustable
from 5 min – 2 h.
Suitable for controlling heating or fan
motors.

building management system, in addition

Presence: e.g. notification of faults and
system statuses, safety monitoring,
control of blinds as well as the central
control of all building functions. The
version with IR receiver, for example,
allows up to 10 channels to be controlled
via remote control (6x switching/
dimming and 2x blinds). Or INSTABUS
ARGUS Presence with constant light
adjustment: light-dependent constant
light adjustment is possible by means
of an integrated brightness sensor.
Surface-mounted housing
Thanks to the surface-mounted housing,
ARGUS presence detectors can
also be mounted on the surface.
The surveillance range depends on the installation height. The table shows the
surveillance range for different installation heights.

The detection sensitivity is reduced
with an installation height of over
3 metres. Larger movements will then
be necessary to trigger a switching
event.

If the ARGUS Presence is installed
higher than 4 metres, then only walking
persons will be detected. This is a
possibility for storerooms or sport halls,
for example.
