market with the new ARGUS 

movement detector system – an innovation 

for safety throughout the home.

ARGUS presence detectors can reduce

ARGUS PRESENCE DETECTOR.

ARGUS Presence – the functional 

principle 

Installed on the ceiling of a room, the 

ARGUS presence detector detects 

the presence of persons in a range 

of Ø 8 m (if installed at a height of 

2.50 m) and simultaneously measures 

the intensity of the natural light. If the 

ambient light drops below a predefined 

threshold, the slightest movements in 

the room will automatically activate the 

lighting via the first channel. However, 

if there is enough ambient light or the 

ARGUS no longer detects a presence, 

the presence detector will switch the 

light off again, thus saving costs. The 

second channel controls all the 

systems connected to it, such as heating, 

ventilation or alarm systems, independently 

of the first channel. Thus, 

for example, the ventilation/heating will 

stay on while the light is switched off 

due to adequate outside brightness. 

ARGUS Presence Detector System 

For complete monitoring of large rooms 

or long corridors. Up to 8 sensor heads 

can be switched in series. This makes 

it possible to monitor corridors up to 

64 m long and control them in a 

targeted way. For use in open-plan 

offices, it is possible to combine pushbuttons 

for manual operation of the 

lighting via an extension input.

The ARGUS 180 flush-mounted movement

A growing market 

The figures are alarming: smoke is the 

primary cause of death in fires. Around 

70 percent of all fire deaths in Germany 

occur during the night. Smouldering 

fires develop quickly due to obsolete 

electrical appliances or carelessness 

such as an unnoticed glowing cigarette. 

According to official estimates, the use 

of smoke detectors could halve the 

number of victims and incidents of fire 

damage. High-quality optical smoke 

detectors are particularly suitable for 

this. One of the few top-class systems 

on the market is the new ARGUS Smoke 

Detector System from Merten, which 

has been awarded a VdS (German 

Association of Property Insurers) test 

certificate for its reliability in smoke 

detection. Certified by the VdS and

all smoke detectors connected to the 

wireless network will trigger an alarm.

time, allowing them to escape to safety. 

An additional central point as alarm 

receiver is therefore not necessary. This

The ARGUS radio module operates on 

the specially reserved 868 MHz radio 

frequency, which means that interference 

or false alarms are impossible.

The relay module with two-way contact 

also allows smoke detectors to be 

combined with external alarm equipment 

(e.g. horns or vibration cushions)

control line and synchronises them,

detectors, magnetic contacts or broken 

glass sensors can easily be integrated 

into the surveillance system. This way

happening in and around their home. 

Plus the versatility of the INSTABUS 

system makes multiple use of the 

sensors possible. Thus, for example, 

the ARGUS movement detectors can 

be used both for monitoring as well as 

for light switching. 

The speech module allows up to eight 

different speech messages, warning 

signals or sounds to be recorded. 

These are then emitted via a loudspeaker 

when a fault or event occurs. 

The status of the monitoring lines and 

the system is reported by the flushmount 

display unit. Red and green 

LEDs indicate the status of monitored 

areas at a glance. Several decentralised 

display units can be installed in a 

building by connecting them to the 

INSTABUS EIB. 

In the event of an alarm, the display 

unit triggers actions such as the 

switching on of the siren and the 

emission of messages. The arming 

device has a sabotage protection 

feature to prevent the lid being opened 

or the device being removed from the 

wall. 

Through TeleConnect it is possible 

to trigger an alarm in the neighbour’s 

house or at a monitoring service by 

telephone. In the case of faults in the 

domestic appliances, the relevant 

engineer can be notified directly. 

And for the outside area, the attractive 

alarm siren is fitted with a flashing light. 

ARGUS Control is mains failure-safe. 

Voltage buffering is carried out by a 

lead-gel accumulator which is connected 

to the voltage supply. 

Whether in the private or commercial 

sphere, ARGUS Control offers your 

customers the ideal burglary monitoring 

and alarm solution.
