Gas Appliance Service Certificate of Qualification
Examination (Formerly the Class C)

Syllabus for the Gas Appliance Service Certificate of Qualification Examination
1. Prerequisites to obtain a gas appliance service certificate of
qualification
An applicant for a gas appliance service certificate of qualification must have
successfully completed a course in gas appliance service training acceptable
to a provincial safety manager.
2. *Scope of work that may be performed by an individual holding a gas
appliance service certificate of qualification
A gas appliance service certificate of qualification entitles the holder to
perform the servicing of the following gas systems while employed by a
licensed gas contractor or under an appropriate permit:
(a) gas appliances installed for residential use, or
(b) light commercial appliances up to an input of 82 kW (280 M Btu).
*Note: The gas appliance service certificate of qualification is intended for the
servicing (maintenance) and minor repair of gas fired residential appliances.
The servicing of a domestic range or dryer may require the removal of either
appliance to a repair facility. After repairing the appliance it may be reinstalled
by the gas appliance service certificate of qualification holder.
The gas appliance service certificate of qualification does not allow: the
installation of new or replacement appliances, the replacement of heat
exchangers, the installation of gas piping, the repair or installation of venting.
