De La Salle Health Sciences Institute Section 21 GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE As befits members of a Christian academic community, grievances against any member, policy, service, etc. of the community should be settled through sincere dialogue and discussion. It is only when such initial discussion fails that one should resort to formal procedures for settling such grievances. It is important that due process be observed. This can be done through proper communication. Written complaint is encouraged. When it is in writing and duly signed, it becomes a formal complaint needing a formal procedure. The complaint, answer, memorandum, recommendation and eventually the decision must also be in writing. Minutes of all proceedings shall also be in writing and shall be signed by all parties concerned. All original records of the proceedings shall be kept in the possession of the Office of the Dean of Student Services. 21.1. Composition of the Student Grievance Board 21.1.1. Dean of Student Services as chair and presiding officer 21.1.2. College Dean of Student complainant 21.1.3. College Dean of the student/faculty respondent or the Department Head of the staff respondent 21.1.4. Representative of the Union of College Student Councils 21.1.5. Representative of the Faculty Association 21.2. Grievance Procedure 21.2.1. For any grievance, the first person to approach for information and assistance is the faculty adviser. 21.2.2.
