demonstrated, more interesting cases of detention of smuggling were related during the meeting. The children admired<br />

the Customs detector dogs, in particular, Labrador dog Aras having demonstrated its skills to find narcotic substances<br />

hidden in the automobile.<br />

The officers of Panevėžys TCO also organised some meetings with the pupils from the schools of Panevėžys and<br />

Kupiškis region. The history of the Lithuanian Customs was told, the activities of the Mobile Groups, dog trainers were<br />

introduced during the meetings. The officers demonstrated the Customs control equipment possessed, introduced the<br />

possibilities to use it.<br />

Other activities<br />

In 2006, the Lithuanian Customs<br />

participated in the exhibitions “Bal–<br />

tic Style”, “TransBaltica”, “InfoBalt”<br />

in Vilnius, “TransRusssia” in Mos–<br />

cow and “AgroBalt” in Šiauliai.<br />

On the occasion of the interna–<br />

tional Child Protection Day, a cha–<br />

rity action took place at the Cus–<br />

toms. Different things were bought<br />

for money subscribed by officers<br />

and donated to two children hospi–<br />

tals in Vilnius and Šiauliai as well<br />

as to Molėtai children care house.<br />

On the same occasion, an exhibi–<br />

tion of the photos from the Customs<br />

employees` childhood “When I was<br />

a Child” was organised at the Cus–<br />

toms Department.<br />

In 2006, the Customs Museum<br />

organised a mobile exposition “The<br />

Unhealing Wound” dedicated to<br />

the 15 th anniversary of Medininkai<br />

tragedy. This exposition was<br />

displayed not only in Vilnius, but in<br />

Muitinės departamente surengta muitinės darbuotojų vaikystės fotografijų<br />

paroda “ Ir aš mažas buvau”.<br />

The exhibition of the photos from the Customs employees` childhood “When I<br />

was a Child” was organised at the Customs Department.<br />

Kaunas Vytautas the Great War Museum as well. In December, a traditional exhibition of creations of Customs officers<br />

and their family members, “My Leisure”, was opened in the Customs Museum.<br />

The second Republican ice–fishing contest of Customs officers, traditional relay “Medininkai–Vilnius”, the IX th<br />

Republican camp gathering of Customs officers took place. Having received the funding granted by the Government, a<br />

trip to Italy and Vatikan as well as an audience with Pope Benedict XVI were organised for the family members of the<br />

Customs officers who perished in Medininkai.<br />

The Lithuanian Customs officers participated in the competitions organised by the European Customs Sports<br />

Association: table tennis competition in Poland, shooting competition in Hungary, football competition in Czech,<br />

International Four Days Marches in the Netherlands. An officer from the Customs Information System Centre took the<br />

first–place prize in the chess tournament Seimo Taurė – 2006 (Seimas Cup – 2006).<br />
