Annual Financial Statements
Fiscal years Ending September 30, 2010 and 2011
The Financial Statements include the following principal statements:
Balance Sheet - presents, as of the end of the fiscal year, amounts of future economic
benefits owned or managed by MARAD (assets), amounts owed by MARAD (liabilities),
and amounts which comprise the difference between assets and liabilities (net position).
Statement of Net Cost - presents the net cost of operations for MARAD.
Statement of Changes in Net Position - presents the change in net position during the
fiscal year. Net position is affected by changes to its two components: Cumulative
Results of Operations and Unexpended Appropriations.
Statement of Budgetary Resources - presents the information about how budgetary
resources were made available as well as their status at the end of the fiscal year.
Notes - accompanying this presentation are an integral part of the financial statements.
The financial statements presented here for MARAD are based on the information included in
the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) audited financial statements for fiscal year (FY) 2011
and FY 2010.
