Peterson Elementary
This group of educators from
Peterson Elementary, along with their
DPI Instructional Coach, Jenn Hatch,
presented at the North Carolina
Collaborative Conference for Student
Achievement. Tanya Fore-McDonald,
Lisa Zekanis, Renae Oxendine, Sharon
Phillips, Ashley Bailey, and Sara Hall
accompanied Ms. Hatch to the
conference to share the amazing
instructional shifts Peterson has been
making this year. They gave two
presentations detailing the hard work
and growth of the school's teachers
and students; Anchor Texts as an
Instructional Tool and Collaborative
Web Based Professional Development.
Both presentations were well received
and highlighted the passion of these
great Tiger teachers.
The Journey Begins
The new beginning for the children
in Peterson Elementary School started
on April 17 as the parents and
students begin the registration
process in the gym with the assistance
of nurses, bus driver, teachers, and the
school counselor, Rosemary
Hemingway and assisted by Mrs.
Bonnie Mack and Mrs. Tonia
Ferguson.. Pre-k and kindergarten
registration begin at 8:30 am and
ended at 2:30 pm. Both the parents
and students were pleased with the
door prizes and gifts packs given to
them on behalf of Mrs. Katherine
McDaniels and the Public Schools of
Robeson County.
Drummers under the directions of
Mr. Rick Dial, music teacher; provided
an outstanding performance for the
Red Springs Head Start and
Pembroke Shining Stars during their
orientation visit to Peterson. The
teachers and students were greeted
by Ms. Rosemary Hemingway, school
counselor. Fourth grade students
provided the tour of the school
campus.
Appointment to
West Point
David Singh, Jr. of South
Robeson High School has been
appointed to The United States
Military Academy at West Point.
Only ten percent of candidates are
chosen to receive this honor.
David will receive a full four year
scholarship valued at over
$200,000 covering tuition, room,
board, and medical care as well as
a monthly stipend. Upon
graduation, David will be
commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant
in the Army and plans to make the
Army his career. David is the only
student from SRHS to ever receive
this appointment. The faculty and
staff of SRHS are very proud of
South Robeson HS
David and applaud his hard
work and commitment.
David was chosen as the
number 1 Cadet at Junior Camp
Leadership Camp where he
commanded approximately 1000
Army JROTC cadets. David has
served as a Regimental Executive
Officer for the last two years and
is currently second in command in
the Robeson County JROTC
Regiment. He is ranked as a
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel in SRHS
JROTC.
David is the son of Pamela
Singh and David Singh, Sr. He
resides with his grandparents,
James and Patsy Hunt, brothers
Jonathan Singh and Jashand
Singh, and cousin Darian Hunt.
