30 • The AUC shall consist of a Chairman and not more than 19 and not less than 11 Members. • Appointment of the Chairman will be made by the CAA for such period as considered appropriate. • Appointment of Members will be made by the CAA on the advice of the Chairman of the AUC. Such appointments will be for a term of three years which may be renewed for a maximum of one further term of three years. However, the fact that a Member has served for a maximum period will not necessarily preclude his or her serving as Chairman beyond the end of that time. • No employee of the CAA may be a Member of the AUC. • Members will be appointed as individuals and not as delegates of any particular interest group. They should represent as wide a range as possible of personal experience as users of air transport services.
31 Financial summary The AUC receives its funding from the Civil Aviation Authority, as an Auxiliary Group within the CAA corporate structure. Secretariat staff are CAA salaried employees on standard CAA conditions of employment. The AUC budget for 2008/09 was £784,000 comprising the following (in £000): Staff 509 Travel & Subsistence* 42 Other operating 65 Accommodation & IT 168 Total 784 *Staff travel and Members' expenses.
