Did You Know We Have a 24 Hour Call Back Line
To ensure your child’s protection, please call the school to let us know that your child will not be in school. If your child is absent and we do
not hear from you, the secretary will telephone you at home or at work. We count on you to telephone us… it is quicker and more efficient
than the school calling you. For your convenience, Westview School has an answering machine that will enable you to call the school
before/after school hours and leave a message regarding your child’s absence at 958-6412.
Message from the FUNdraising Coordinator:
Another school year has begun and Parent Council has decided to do the following fundraisers:
1. Nestle Chocolate Bars
2. Regal
For every returned box of chocolate and/or money the students name will be entered into a draw with a chance to win the Grand
Prize of a $50.00 gift card. There will also be 5 runner-up draws for $10.00 gift cards to Toys’r’Us, Kildonan Place and/or Famous
Players Movie Pass.
This fundraiser is completely optional and I have set up a website so you can order online and it will be shipped directly to your home.
If you do not have the internet please advise and I can send home the Christmas Catalogue. What a great way to get your Christmas
cards, wrapping paper and support the school at the same time!!! More information will be coming home shortly.
News from our Guidance Counselor
Hello! My name is Megan O'Rourke, and I am the new school counselor and teacher-librarian at Westview School. I'm so excited to be here, and
am looking forward to meeting and working with each of you! As a school counselor, my goal is to promote positive mental health and wellbeing
through individual, group and classroom guidance.
Guidance programs this year will include Roots of Empathy in our grade 5 classroom, and Safe School Ambassadors with our Leadership
students. Safe School Ambassadors is a bit like the conflict management program of Peacemakers, with the goal of activating the bystanders
in situations of conflict and bullying.
Once again, I look forward to working with the students and families of Westview School!
News Flash from the Library
There have been a lot of changes taking place this year in the library including our new team - Krista Maynard is our new library technician,
and Megan O'Rourke is our new teacher-librarian (you will also find Mrs. O'Rourke in the guidance department!)
We are currently brainstorming for new titles to add to our collection - if you have suggestions or ideas, please stop by and let us know! Our
hope is that the library will serve all of your reading and informational needs!
The 2012-2013 MYRCA book selection is nearly catalogued and ready for reading! Stop by in the next few weeks and check out what is new for
our older readers!
PHYS ED FACTS FROM MR. FUST
The Phys-ed year has gotten off to wonderful, fast paced start. With the nice weather we have been able to do most activities outside. The
Westview Cross Country team will be heading to Birds Hill Park in early October for their River East Transcona School Division meet. Practices
have started and we will continue to practice at lunch time to prepare for the races. If parents are interested in purchasing a Westview School
T-shirt, they can contact our Parent Council or the school office for an order form. We will be wearing our Westview Whales t- shirts for all
extra-curricular activities this year.
Teacher Websites at Westview
Each teacher has their own website at Westview School and is being offered as a communication tool for both students and their families.
Teacher websites can be accessed through the school home-page at http://www.west.retsd.mb.ca Please contact your child’s teacher to
obtain a password in order to navigate to his/her web page. We hope students/parents find this useful.

LUNCH PROGRAM
The main goal of the Westview Lunch Program is to provide a safe, supervised environment during the lunch period for your children. If your
child will be participating in the lunch program on a full time or part time basis, we ask that you complete the registration form along with
your payment and return to the office. (payment options are available as noted on the registration form).
