Culture and Patient Safety Survey Results
Thank you to all staff who took the time to respond to our 2012 Culture
and Patient Safety Survey. It was our most successful survey ever,
with close to half of our workforce sharing their opinions and thoughts
on how they feel about being employed at Alfred Health.
Having achieved the participation of more than 3,400 staff means we
can not only have confidence and trust in the results, but we are also
left with a valuable set of data. This information can be used to guide
improvements and changes that will take us forward as a strong
community.
Over the coming weeks, program directors, department heads and unit
heads will begin sharing the results of the survey with their teams. It
will be an opportunity to discuss and explore what the results mean and
to thank you for your hard work, dedication and commitment.
Importantly, we can also begin to address the areas needing
improvement.
The overall analysis tells us that we have an extremely positive culture
of trust and commitment, and that the vast majority of staff think Alfred
Health is not only a good place to work, but one that close to three
quarters feel an emotional attachment to.
While responses indicated that performance reviews are objective and
fair, we also learned that we need to ensure more of our staff are
exposed to this annual process. Not only does it help to provide clarity
around work expectations, but it delivers a platform from which
feedback can be given - something the survey revealed we need to do
better.
By nature we are an organisation that moves quickly to address the
next opportunity or to solve a problem but the survey results also tell us
that we don’t always pause to recognise good work, to deliver praise,
recognition, or simply say “thank you”.
The survey has given us a snapshot of our workforce. If we use the
results wisely it will improve Alfred Health and I look forward to hearing
the feedback that you provide in the team discussions over the coming
weeks.
