Thank you letters
I just want to thank everyone who in my time
of need allowed me to be there for Jemyni in
her last few weeks. I know it’s going to be a long
road and a healing process but I am thankful for
the support, especially my mother Laura Allen
for being there every step of the way. I know it
was hard for her also. The other people I would
like to thank are: Helen and Levi, Father Mike
Fitzpatrick, Armand Minthorn, Tony and Angie
Aguilar, Erma Sams, Mona Yeagar, Celeste
Reeves and the people at the Longhouse. I would
also like to thank everyone that I didn’t mention.
It’s nice to know that no matter what the people
do come together and help or do what they can
when someone they know or barely knew lend
a helping caring hand. For this I am greatful for
everything and the help.

Sons of Tradition starting
A newly formed Sons of Tradition gathering in February included, front to back:
Dante Johnson, Zack Cry, Tawin Hasket, Jr Tappo, Parley Haskett, Michael
Macomber, Ethan Tappo, Wilbur Oatman, Seth Scott, Kelsey Burns, Bryson Tappo
Tahner Bates, Art McConville, Victor Bates, Fred Hill, Ryan Sams, Leo Stewart,
Lloyd Commander, Armand Minthorn and Terry Bettles. The group is being
coordinated by the Yellowhawk Behavioral Health Program, with volunteer adult
male teachers, to promote wellbriety and cultural awareness.
Addiction expert to
speak March 17-18
PENDLETON – An expert on addiction,
mental illness the HIV will speak
primarily about child development and
trauma during a two-day conference
March 16 and 17 at Wildhorse Casino.
The Yellowhawk Abuse Prevention
Program will present Gabor Mate, M.D.,
physician and author. In addition to
public speaking, Mate has written four
books, the most recent “In the Realm of
Hungry Ghosts” and “Close Encounters
with Addiction.”
Mate worked for 12 years with patients
challenged by hard core drug addiction,
mental illness and HIV, the virus that
often leads to full-blown AIDS. His other
interests encompass childhood development
issues, adolescent mental health,
and parenting issues, as articulated in
his books “Scattered” on attention deficit
disorder and “Hold on to your Kids: Why
Parents Need to Matter More than Peers.”
He also has a unique view of stress and
mind/body unity of healing and illness,
the subject of his most translated work,
“When the Body Says No: Exploring the
Stress/Disease Connection.”
The conference will be free to CTUIR
members, community members and all
employees. A registration fee will be
announced for all other attendees. Preregistration
is required, even for Tribal
