He at her feet did bow his head,<br />

Fell down, <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> life forsook.<br />

Me<strong>an</strong>while his longing mo<strong>the</strong>r did<br />

From out her window look ;<br />

Thus crying at<br />

<strong>The</strong> latticed grate,<br />

'<br />

Why stays his chariot so,<br />

From hasting home <br />

Oh ! wherefore come<br />

His chariot wheels so slow '<br />

As thus she spake, her ladies wise<br />

To her <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>swer gave ;<br />

Yea, to herself, herself replies ;<br />

'<br />

Sure, sped (saith she) <strong>the</strong>y have :<br />

And all this while<br />

<strong>The</strong>y part <strong>the</strong> spoil ;<br />

A damsel, one or tway,*<br />

Each homeward bears,<br />

And Sisera shares<br />

A party-coloured prey.<br />
