sustained growth in the percentage for investment in
relation to the GDP generated is to be observed.
There are clear determining factors supporting the
sustained growth in infrastructure investment, which
are:
• The increase in per capita income, which is matched
by an increase in demand for infrastructure
improvements, both in transport and energy.
• Strong population growth, migratory or tourist
movements.
• Regulatory, environmental or technological
changes which drive the need for a transition
towards more modern and effi cient infrastructures.
The growth in the need for investment in
infrastructures and their relevance in a country’s
economic and social development characterise this
industry worldwide. However, the infrastructure
sector presents differing characteristics depending
on the geographic market in which it is located, as
well as differentiated needs and opportunities for
investment.
