Moira (Mulhern) Verhagen is 29 years old and is studying
to be a nurse.
Robert Verhagen is 30 years old. Both were born and
raised in the Capital District outskirts in rural Albany County.
The couple attended elementary, middle school and high
school together, but didn’t begin dating until after graduation.
After seven great years together, Robert proposed to Moira on the
anniversary of their seventh year of dating.
The happy couple tied the knot on August 25, 2012. They
were wed at a place very near and dear to Moira’s heart—her family
farm where she grew up. The wedding theme was the bride and
groom’s dream—simple, country and classic, surrounded by family
and memories. A spectacular tent housed beautifully set up tables
and linens, and there was even a popcorn machine for everyone to
enjoy. In the evening, the tent was illuminated by lighting so the
fun could continue into the night during the reception. Fences
and outbuildings were decorated with festive flowers and lights.
Some of the flowers used for decorations were grown on the family’s
property. The centerpieces for the tables were created by the
bride’s family using simple but chic flowers, mason jars and crocks,
as well as old horse leathers from the groom’s family farm.
The food was a picnic menu consisting mostly of hot dogs,
hamburgers, sausage and peppers, and delicious cold salads. The
bride’s family put together a customized list of tunes which was
played from an iPod. A close family friend made the incredible
wedding cake. The entire wedding could not have been more
picture perfect and intimate with the beautiful weather and close
family and friends. Now it’s official—Robert and Moira are husband
and wife. ■
