Sports Presentation Evening
On the evening of 5 th July, Longfield held its Sports Presentation Evening at the Dolphin Centre in
Darlington.
The event celebrated the wide variety and success in sporting achievement over the past year at
Longfield and was attended by over 120 pupils, their parents/carers and a number of guests including
the Worshipful Mayor and Mayoress.
Sporting achievement prizes and awards were presented by our inspirational guest speaker Lee
Fawcett. After being left paralysed at the age of 15 following a spinal operation, he coached a junior
football team from a wheelchair. Their success inspired him to take up disabled sport and become a
paralympian. A former player in the GB Wheelchair Basketball team and GB Paralympian Wheelchair
fencer, Lee gave an inspirational speech. Pointing out the determination, dedication and commitment
required in competing for Great Britain in two different sports, he talked about the highs and lows of
being an elite athlete and how sport helped him in life.
The event was a huge success!
