the Secretary of the Navy deems appropriate. Appointments are<br />

made without the requirements of a formal selection board<br />

process.<br />

a. The Secretary of the Navy may designate the commanding<br />

officer and other members from qualified members of the U.S.<br />

<strong>Marine</strong> Drum and Bugle <strong>Corps</strong>. Such appointments shall be<br />

temporary and the Secretary of the Navy may revoke the<br />

appointments at any time. Temporary appointments do not change<br />

the permanent status of the officer with regard to promotion or<br />

appointment.<br />

b. The Secretary of the Navy shall prescribe regulations<br />

for the appointment and promotion of officers of the U.S. <strong>Marine</strong><br />

Drum and Bugle <strong>Corps</strong>. Members of the U.S. <strong>Marine</strong> Drum and Bugle<br />

<strong>Corps</strong> will be appointed as follows:<br />

(1) The Secretary of the Navy may make temporary<br />

appointments, not above the grade of captain, per section 5596<br />

of title 10, U.S. Code.<br />

(2) Appointments above the grade of captain shall be<br />

made by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the<br />

Senate.<br />

d. The date of rank and effective date of appointment for<br />

members of the U.S. <strong>Marine</strong> Drum and Bugle <strong>Corps</strong> shall be<br />

determined by the Secretary of the Navy.<br />

e. The Secretary of the Navy may revoke the appointment of<br />

any officer of the U.S. <strong>Marine</strong> Drum and Bugle <strong>Corps</strong>. When a<br />

member's appointment is revoked, the appointment to a<br />

commissioned grade under this section terminates and the officer<br />

is entitled, at the officer's option:<br />

(1) To be discharged from the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Corps</strong>; or<br />

(2) To revert to the officer's permanent grade and<br />

status held at the time the temporary appointment is terminated.<br />

2. Upon receipt of a request for appointment from the<br />

Commanding Officer, <strong>Marine</strong> Barracks, 8th and I, Washington, DC,<br />

via the chain of command, appropriate action will be taken by<br />

the CMC (MMPR).<br />
