Academic Honors List includes students<br />
taking imputed or remedial level courses<br />
and students taking pass/fail courses if fewer<br />
than 3 credit hours.<br />
At the end of each semester, Honors Lists<br />
will be prepared by the Registrar’s Office<br />
and sent to the Office of Public Relations<br />
for distribution to the news media. Media<br />
releases will not include the names of students<br />
who have restricted the release of directory<br />
information pursuant to FERPA.<br />
6.3 Honor Societies<br />
Alpha Phi Sigma - The only national<br />
Criminal Justice honor society for Criminal<br />
Justice majors. The society recognizes<br />
academic excellence of baccalaureate and<br />
graduate students of Criminal Justice, as well<br />
as juris doctorate. <strong>Student</strong>s are required to<br />
complete three full-time semesters, have a<br />
minimum GPA of 3.00 with a minimum<br />
GPA of 3.20 in Criminal Justice courses, and<br />
in the top 35 percent of their class.<br />
Chi Alpha Epsilon (Alpha Sigma Chapter)<br />
- A national honor society comprised of<br />
Educational Opportunity Program students<br />
and other full-time students initially enrolled<br />
in post-secondary development programs,<br />
who have achieved a cumulative GPA of<br />
3.00 or above for two consecutive semesters.<br />
Golden Key - An international and<br />
cross-discipline honor society for those students<br />
enrolled in a baccalaureate program.<br />
Membership is extended to those junior and<br />
senior students that possess a GPA that, when<br />
calculated, is within the top 15 percent of<br />
their class.<br />
Phi Theta Kappa (Lambda Eta Chapter)<br />
- An international honor society for students<br />
at two-year colleges. To be inducted into<br />
Phi Theta Kappa Lambda Eta, members<br />
must have a 3.50 GPA for one full semester<br />
and maintain a 3.25 GPA overall thereafter.<br />
Tau Alpha Pi (New York Mu Chapter) - A<br />
national honor society consisting of students<br />
and alumni of Engineering Technology curricula.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s are required to maintain a<br />
3.75 GPA for three semesters prior to induction.<br />
<strong>SUNY</strong> <strong>Canton</strong> was chartered in 1981.<br />
6.4 Graduating With Honors<br />

Honors for the Commencement Program<br />
are based on cumulative GPA to December<br />
31 of the year prior to Commencement.<br />
Honors GPA 3.25–3.49<br />
High Honors GPA 3.50–3.74<br />
ACADEMICS<br />
Highest Honors GPA 3.75–4.00<br />
Upon program completion students who<br />
have earned cumulative GPAs as listed above<br />
will be designated for Honors, High Honors,<br />
or Highest Honors on their diplomas and<br />
transcripts.<br />
7.0 Registration<br />
Semesterly registration affirms courses in<br />
which students are officially enrolled after<br />
meeting financial obligations.<br />
Full-time matriculated students registering<br />
after the payment deadline will be liable<br />
for Late Registration Fees. Registration of<br />
full-time students will be allowed only until<br />
the end of the first three class days.<br />
7.1 Good Academic Standing<br />
and Satisfactory Progress<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s permitted to re-register are considered<br />
to be making satisfactory progress<br />
in their chosen program and are in good<br />
academic standing.<br />
7.2 Re-Registration/Academic<br />
Requirements<br />
To register for the second or any subsequent<br />
semester, a full-time matriculated,<br />
degree student must achieve the following<br />
standards or have the approval of the Dean of<br />
the School in which the student is registered.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s who do not meet re-registration<br />
requirements may, at the discretion of the<br />
Dean of the appropriate school, be placed on<br />
either Suspension or Academic Probation.<br />
