Small in stature but huge on ideas, Christine Monk is a leader
who is leaving her footprint in Genesee County one street, one
block, one garden at a time.
For Christine it’s all about listening to others, building
relationships and ultimately earning trust.
Christine is on the staff of Keep Genesee County Beautiful and
also is a member of the Community Foundation’s Neighborhoods
Small Grants Committee, a group of volunteers dedicated to
neighborhood improvement and beautification projects.
Keep Genesee County Beautiful administers beautification
grants throughout the community by inviting neighborhood
block clubs and associations, community and civic groups,
nonprofit organizations, school groups or other interested
parties to propose projects that support beautification efforts
in Genesee County.
Last year $23,000 in mini grants were awarded from the
Mary Elizabeth Adams Manley Beautification Fund and the
Ruth Mott Beautification Fund.
The impact of those grants is where Christine’s day job
intersects with her volunteer work. As a program assistant
for Keep Genesee County Beautiful, Christine travels hundreds
of miles across the county each summer to photograph and
examine where and how the beautification dollars were spent.

Centered by her love for community, Christine enjoys visiting
with neighbors, school volunteers, church members and others
who are cultivating flowers, gardens and beautiful spaces
throughout Genesee County. It’s those relationships that
Christine values most.
“It’s all about building relationships, reaching out to the
community and doing good,” says Christine. “My whole
purpose in life is to leave this world a better place. I hope
I can make a difference.”
