Local philanthropists — individuals, families and
organizations — created their own legacy in
2009 by establishing endowed charitable funds
through the Community Foundation of Greater
Flint. We are grateful for their philanthropic
leadership and generosity.

Donor aDviseD FunDs
LeonarD anD PameLa CaLDerone FunD
The Community Foundation was named a charitable beneficiary
of the Calderone’s Charitable Remainder Unitrust, a planned
gift which established this donor advised Fund to support
various charitable needs of the community.
TheLmon GLaDDen FunD
Former Community Foundation trustee Jo Anne Mondowney
established this donor advised Fund in honor of her father,
Thelmon Gladden. Jo Anne will advise grants that support a
variety of charitable causes including programs that support
the health, well-being and parenting skills of young men.
virGinia r. LanDaaL FamiLy FunD
Local businesswoman Virginia Landaal created this donor
advised Fund (see story on page 8) to engage her grandchildren
in philanthropy and give back to the community. The Fund
supports a variety of purposes primarily benefiting the Greater
Flint community.
Pioneer sTaTe muTuaL insuranCe
CorPoraTion FunD
Since 1908 this Michigan-based insurance company,
roberT s. anD JuDy W. PiPer FamiLy FunD
Local realtor Robert Piper, former chair of the Community
Foundation’s Board of Trustees, established a donor advised
Fund with his wife, Judy. The Pipers were honored in 2008
as recipients of the Community Foundation’s Piper Family
Philanthropy Award. Sadly, the community mourned Judy’s
passing in 2010. Her philanthropic legacy continues as the
Fund supports a variety of charitable purposes primarily
benefiting the Greater Flint community.
roTary CLub oF FLushinG FunD
Flushing Rotarians will make an impact in the community
through the establishment of this donor advised Fund to
support charitable causes in the Flushing area.
DesiGnaTeD FunDs
Joe DaiLy FunD
Established in memory of Joe Daily, a Flushing resident and
local teacher (see story on page 18), this designated Fund
benefits pediatric oncology patients and their families at
Hurley Medical Center.
Troy anD raGhaD Farah FamiLy FunD
Local businessman Troy Farah has served on the Community
Foundation’s Board of Trustees since 2006. Troy and Raghad
established this designated Fund to support operations of the
Community Foundation of Greater Flint.
Ira a. rutherford, Jr. and Clara W. rutherford fund
Long-time Flint educator Ira A. Rutherford has served on the
Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees since 2008. To
demonstrate his leadership and commitment, Ira established
this designated Fund in honor of his parents to support
operations of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

LaWrenCe e. moon FunD For
ChiLDren anD youTh
This Fund was established to recognize the outstanding
dedication and leadership of long-serving Community
Foundation trustee Lawrence E. Moon, who served as chair of
the board from 2006-2009. The field of interest Fund supports
programs and services for children and youth in Genesee
County, with special consideration for those residing in the
City of Flint.

James T. boTTiCeLLi sChoLarshiP FunD
Members of the Botticelli family established this scholarship
Fund in memory of James Botticelli, M.D., a graduate of Fenton
High School. The Fund will provide scholarship awards to a
graduating senior of Fenton High School pursuing a medical
field of study to become a physician.

JaCk WiLLson ThomPson FunD
Beloved obstetrician Jack Thompson, M.D., a member of
the Community Foundation from 1988-2006 and generous
benefactor of many causes, established this unrestricted
Fund through a charitable remainder annuity trust. The
Fund supports the broad and varied charitable needs of
the community.
