Local philanthropists — individuals, families and<br />
organizations — created their own legacy in<br />
<strong>2009</strong> by establishing endowed charitable funds<br />
through the <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Greater</strong><br />
<strong>Flint</strong>. We are grateful for their philanthropic<br />
leadership and generosity.<br />

pHILAnTHropY<br />
Donor aDviseD FunDs<br />
LeonarD anD PameLa CaLDerone FunD<br />
The <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> was named a charitable beneficiary<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Calderone’s Charitable Remainder Unitrust, a planned<br />
gift which established this donor advised Fund to support<br />
various charitable needs <strong>of</strong> the community.<br />
TheLmon GLaDDen FunD<br />
Former <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> trustee Jo Anne Mondowney<br />
established this donor advised Fund in honor <strong>of</strong> her father,<br />
Thelmon Gladden. Jo Anne will advise grants that support a<br />
variety <strong>of</strong> charitable causes including programs that support<br />
the health, well-being and parenting skills <strong>of</strong> young men.<br />
virGinia r. LanDaaL FamiLy FunD<br />
Local businesswoman Virginia Landaal created this donor<br />
advised Fund (see story on page 8) to engage her grandchildren<br />
in philanthropy and give back to the community. The Fund<br />
supports a variety <strong>of</strong> purposes primarily benefiting the <strong>Greater</strong><br />
<strong>Flint</strong> community.<br />
Pioneer sTaTe muTuaL insuranCe<br />
CorPoraTion FunD<br />
Since 1908 this Michigan-based insurance company,<br />
roberT s. anD JuDy W. PiPer FamiLy FunD<br />
Local realtor Robert Piper, former chair <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>Foundation</strong>’s Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees, established a donor advised<br />
Fund with his wife, Judy. The Pipers were honored in 2008<br />
as recipients <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong>’s Piper Family<br />
Philanthropy Award. Sadly, the community mourned Judy’s<br />
passing in 2010. Her philanthropic legacy continues as the<br />
Fund supports a variety <strong>of</strong> charitable purposes primarily<br />
benefiting the <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Flint</strong> community.<br />
roTary CLub oF FLushinG FunD<br />
Flushing Rotarians will make an impact in the community<br />
through the establishment <strong>of</strong> this donor advised Fund to<br />
support charitable causes in the Flushing area.<br />
DesiGnaTeD FunDs<br />
Joe DaiLy FunD<br />
Established in memory <strong>of</strong> Joe Daily, a Flushing resident and<br />
local teacher (see story on page 18), this designated Fund<br />
benefits pediatric oncology patients and their families at<br />
Hurley Medical Center.<br />
Troy anD raGhaD Farah FamiLy FunD<br />
Local businessman Troy Farah has served on the <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>Foundation</strong>’s Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees since 2006. Troy and Raghad<br />
established this designated Fund to support operations <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Flint</strong>.<br />
Ira a. rutherford, Jr. and Clara W. rutherford fund<br />
Long-time <strong>Flint</strong> educator Ira A. Rutherford has served on the<br />
<strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong>’s Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees since 2008. To<br />
demonstrate his leadership and commitment, Ira established<br />
this designated Fund in honor <strong>of</strong> his parents to support<br />
operations <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Flint</strong>.<br />

LaWrenCe e. moon FunD For<br />
ChiLDren anD youTh<br />
This Fund was established to recognize the outstanding<br />
dedication and leadership <strong>of</strong> long-serving <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>Foundation</strong> trustee Lawrence E. Moon, who served as chair <strong>of</strong><br />
the board from 2006-<strong>2009</strong>. The field <strong>of</strong> interest Fund supports<br />
programs and services for children and youth in Genesee<br />
County, with special consideration for those residing in the<br />
City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Flint</strong>.<br />
sChoLarshiP FunD<br />
James T. boTTiCeLLi sChoLarshiP FunD<br />
Members <strong>of</strong> the Botticelli family established this scholarship<br />
Fund in memory <strong>of</strong> James Botticelli, M.D., a graduate <strong>of</strong> Fenton<br />
High School. The Fund will provide scholarship awards to a<br />
graduating senior <strong>of</strong> Fenton High School pursuing a medical<br />
field <strong>of</strong> study to become a physician.<br />

JaCk WiLLson ThomPson FunD<br />
Beloved obstetrician Jack Thompson, M.D., a member <strong>of</strong><br />
the <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> from 1988-2006 and generous<br />
benefactor <strong>of</strong> many causes, established this unrestricted<br />
Fund through a charitable remainder annuity trust. The<br />
Fund supports the broad and varied charitable needs <strong>of</strong><br />
the community.<br />
