Blaine Raffee enjoys a backstage visit
and bus tour after Alice Cooper's
Charlotte concert.

“Alice Cooper is a character
that I play,” says Cooper. Alice
explains that when he is performing
he adopts the character of Alice
Cooper, but he has the ability to turn
him off when he is offstage. Cooper
says that this was the problem with
Jim Morrison and Keith Moon,
amongst others, that they were
unable to separate their on-stage
persona from their personal lives.
Cooper quickly learned he needed
an alternative addiction than the
ones that so many in his business
were stuck in.
One thing that struck me with
my time with Cooper was how nice
and down to earth he was, very
genuine. He also seemed to have a
lot of energy for a 64 year old
veteran rocker. Both he and Jordan
bested me by a few shots, but I
didn’t mind, his stories of music,
golf and life were worth it.
As far as his golf game goes,
he hits it straight and has mastered
the long putter. As we were finishing
up our round he asked me if I was
going to see his show that night.
Before we teed off I might have said
no, but by the time we had finished,
I was a fan. Alice and his management
were nice enough to give us a

Not knowing what to expect, I
was blown away. Not only did I
recognize almost every song, but
that stage show he puts on would
rival any of today’s artists.
Immediately following the show
my friends and I we were invited
backstage to take a few pictures
with Alice and his band. We were
very surprised when he invited us
all on his tour bus.
After playing golf in the
Charlotte heat all day as well as
taping his radio show, he performed
a stage show for over an hour.
I was exhausted and had half the
day he did. He was very gracious
as he sat and talked with us on his
bus as if he’d known us for years.
He thanked me for golf and said it
was time for us to go-he had a
7:30 a.m. tee time the next morning.
