Yonne in the mood for cultural discovery Founded by Marguerite de Bourgogne, this Hôtel-Dieu or hospital has a superb ward with astonishing timber work. The museum is in a building adjoining the main hall and has several areas divided into themes, such as the church in the hospital from the 12 th to the 19 th century and the founding of the Hôtel-Dieu. The gnomom, an astronomy instrument carved into the ground, and a very beautiful entombment of Christ should not be missed. www.tonnerre.fr Founded by the monks of Citeaux, the Abbey is one of the most beautiful examples of a Cistercian building to be seen in France, and it is also the largest. Its style is at a transition between the Romanesque and Gothic. The Abbey hosted three English bishops including Thomas Becket and still attracts many English pilgrims.
