“The girls did a good job adjusting to a new rotation,” said Coach<br />
Traci Woodard. “We also had not played in a week and a half, but<br />
it did not keep them from playing hard and winning.” Skylar Shawn<br />
put up seven assists. Kendra Mendoza slammed five kills and Madi<br />
Manoushagian four. Haley Denton hit five aces, Manoushagian four<br />
and Shawn three. Jessica Mares and Denton each had a pair of<br />
digs. Kara Demmitt contributed an ace, a dig and an assist. Mares<br />
had an ace and Manoushagian a block.<br />

Bridgeport served well, scoring 18 points on aces. “I am proud<br />
of the hustle I saw on the court,” said Coach Cheila Demmitt.<br />
Maegan McLaughlin served seven aces, Alex Sullivan-Green six,<br />
Tamara Lippincott and Kayla Henson two each and Hannah Brown<br />
one. McLaughlin had three kills and Lippincott two. Sullivan-Green<br />
and Lippincott each had two assists and Henson one. Sullivan-<br />
Green added two digs.<br />

The girls played excellent games and worked well as a team,<br />
said Coach Shelly Arrington. “Super ball handling strategies, continuous<br />
concentration and a very energetic spirit to win gave the<br />
Sissies a victory.” Alyson Price had five assists, Samantha Hanock<br />
and Landrie Walsh four each, and Jordan Vidal and Hayley<br />
ooten two each. Price had three aces and two digs. Vidal had a<br />
ig and Hooten an ace.<br />

“The Sissies are using great ball-handling techniques and coninuing<br />
to work as a team,” said Coach Shelly Arrington. “They<br />
ontinue to improve their serving and use different combinations<br />
o win the set and match.” Kaylee Love and Tabatha Rivera each<br />
ad four assists and Isabel Rodriguez two. Love served three aces,<br />
and Rivera and Rodriguez two each. Rodriguez also had one dig.<br />

Junior varsity<br />
Bridgeport placed second in the team standings at Iowa Park<br />
Oct. 1 with 42 points. Alejandra Huerta was top finisher with a<br />
16:34, good for fifth. Kennedy Hudson was right behind in sixth<br />
with a 16:38. Katie Samples placed with a 16:55, Raven Sessums<br />
was 11th in 17:41 and Sarah Joiner rounded out the team.<br />
Junior high<br />
Bridgeport seventh grade girls took third with 61 points at <strong>Wise</strong><br />
<strong>County</strong> Park Saturday. Kaylee Love was top finisher with seventh<br />
place in 15:03. Diana Garcia ran 10th in 15:34, Shiloh Weirich<br />
16th in 16:32, Brianada Jasso 20th in 17:00, Elbia Ortiz 21st in<br />
17:05, Tabitha Rivera 29th in 17:46. Lorna Mendez 33rd in 17:50,<br />
Samantha James 34th in 17:50, Ryhan Read 36th in 17:50 and<br />
Haley Engelert 37th in 17:50. Bridgeport brought 21 of the 54 runners,<br />
but several others were playing in a volleyball tournament. In<br />
the eighth grade meet, Kathryn McCauley placed 22nd in 16:48<br />
and Haley Huber 25th in 17:25.<br />
Decatur Middle School cross-country runners hosted their first<br />
meet Saturday at <strong>Wise</strong> <strong>County</strong> Park and proved to be excellent<br />
competitors as well as hosts. The seventh grade girls struck gold<br />
with Nichole Neighbors crossing first at 13:34. Following close behind<br />
were teammates Nichole Perez (4th 14:40) Baiey Berryman<br />
(5th 14:41), Dianna Perez (sixth 14:44), and Ashtyn Bell clinching<br />
first place for the team (eighth 15:22). The seventh grade girls<br />
won with 20 points to second place Highland MS at 52. Included in<br />
the team’s top ten were Nancy Torres (9th 15:27), Jacie Lachlan<br />
(14th 16:01), Hannah Griffith (18th 16:45)Mital Patel (24th17:19)<br />
and Christy MaHaffey (25th 17:20).<br />
The eighth grade girls followed suit, almost presenting a clinic<br />
on team effort, as they won their bracket with 25 points to Springtown's<br />
46. Second through fifth places were all Decatur, Morgan<br />
Haney 13:29, Samantha Gollakner 13:31, Haley Dennard 13:50,<br />
and Marissa Martinez 13:54. Lilly Doubrava brought in the team<br />
victory in 12th place at 14:53. The next five girls were close behind,<br />
Guirnalda Lopez (16th 15:47), Anagale Maddox(17th 16:11),<br />
Haylea McDaniel (20th 16:32), Maci Mitchell (21st 16:39) and<br />
Jessica Cooper (28th 17:43).<br />

Though Bridgeport forced three turnovers and turned one into a<br />
score, the Bulls also turned it over to thwart their chances for a<br />
win. Brandon Smith caused a fumble, and Trevor Boles recovered it<br />
and ran 60 yards for the only touchdown. Skylar Stowe contributed<br />
150 yards of offense. Smith had several big tackles for losses.<br />
Tyler Gardner had an interception, and Emilio Santellano had a<br />
fumble recovery.<br />
