Enrollment Procedure<br />

Enrollment Information<br />

To enroll, students must see a counselor for course selection and completion of<br />

enrollment form before paying fees. Classes will be filled on a first-come, firstserved<br />

basis. Enrollment opens April 22, 2013. The last day to enroll for <strong>High</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> courses is Thursday, May 30, 2013 no later than noon.<br />

(After May 23rd , you must enroll at Heights or North).<br />

Course Fees<br />

USD 259 Students: Course fees are $90.00 per class (one half unit of course credit)<br />

All other Students: $150.00 per class (one half unit of course credit)<br />

***No refund issued after student attends first session.<br />

***No transportation will be provided for <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong>.<br />

Attendance Policy<br />

Students are expected to be present each day of summer school without exception.<br />

When students are unable to be present for the entire 12 days, students<br />

risk removal from the summer school opportunity without credit and without<br />

refund. Family vacations, doctor appointments, and other commitments should not<br />

be planned during summer school classes.<br />

No make-up sessions will be held. Three (3) tardies equal one(1) absence. Any student<br />

late after 30 minutes to a session is considered absent. Students with one(1)<br />

absence will be withdrawn with an “F”.<br />

* Emergency absences will be up to the discretion of the principal.


Behavior Expectations<br />

Conduct<br />

Conduct which interferes with the rights of other students to learn will not<br />

be tolerated and could result in removal from <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong>. Events surrounding<br />

the reason the student is sent to the office will be investigated<br />

and due process given. (No refunds)<br />

Smoking or Use of Tobacco<br />

Smoking or any use of tobacco on USD 259 property may result in dismissal<br />

from <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong>.<br />

Dress and Courtesy<br />

The general atmosphere of a school must be conducive to learning. If a<br />

student’s general appearance attracts undue attention to the extent that it<br />

becomes a disruptive factor, the student will be asked to make necessary<br />

changes.<br />

Cell Phones/Music Devices<br />

Cell phone usage is prohibited during class (instructional) time. The use of<br />

music devices during class (instructional) time is at the discretion of the<br />

classroom teacher.<br />

All USD 259 BOE Policies are in effect for <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong>. USD 259<br />

is not responsible for damaged or stolen electronic devices brought to<br />

summer school by students.<br />

Learning Centers<br />

The Learning Centers will be open at all comprehensive high schools.<br />

during <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong>. Inquire at the individual schools for details.


Course Offerings<br />

The <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> courses allow students to receive credit in<br />

required subject areas after they have failed a course earlier. Three<br />

classes are offered for original credit based on the following criteria:<br />

1. Government, students entering their senior year (one semester<br />

course).<br />

2. Financial Literacy, students entering their junior or senior year.<br />

3. P.E. Foundations (two semester course) students entering their<br />

freshman year.<br />

First semester courses (.5 credit) are offered in the morning session:<br />

7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.<br />

Second semester courses (.5 credit) are offered in the afternoon<br />

session: 12:00 to 4:00<br />

The one-semester course in Government and Financial Literacy is offered<br />

both sessions as enrollment and teacher availability allow.<br />

Learning² e<strong>School</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>School</strong> Offerings<br />

e<strong>School</strong> will follow the same guidelines for enrollment<br />

as our partners at North HS and Heights HS. Our<br />

courses, however, are online, requiring all students to<br />

have high speed internet service and a computer at<br />

home to enroll. Students must have an active email<br />

address to maintain daily communication with their<br />

online teacher. Students must attend a face-to-face<br />

1 hour training session before summer school begins,<br />

on Friday, May 31. Students will meet in-person at<br />

412 S. Main for their final exam proctoring on June<br />

20. Failure to meet at the designated testing time<br />

will result in failure of the class.<br />
