<strong>CEDAW</strong> and the Law:<br />

report, a delegation of a State Party is invited to a constructive dialogue with the <strong>CEDAW</strong><br />

Committee to present the report, discuss its contents, exchange views on challenges to implementation,<br />

and provide recommendations. The dialogue was held during a <strong>CEDAW</strong> session in<br />

New York in the past; and, from 2008, will be held in Geneva and New York. In consideration<br />

of the report of States Parties, information - including alternative or shadow reports from NGOs<br />

and reports from specialized agencies - are welcomed by the <strong>CEDAW</strong> Committee.<br />

III.1.4 CONCLUDING COMMENTS<br />

Concluding Comments are observations and recommendations issued by the <strong>CEDAW</strong><br />

Committee after its consideration of State Party reports and the constructive dialogue with a<br />

State Party delegation. They are issued specific to a country and its context. Concluding<br />

Comments were renamed Concluding Observations in 2008.<br />

III.1.5 GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS<br />

GRs are authoritative interpretations of the <strong>CEDAW</strong> Committee on either specific articles of the<br />

treaty or contemporary or emerging issues. They were renamed General Comments in 2008.<br />

The <strong>CEDAW</strong> Committee presently has issued 25 GRs:<br />
