Working holiday of a lifetime for the winning rider
The sixth and final race on the card is the £50,000 QIPCO Future Stars Apprentices’ Handicap
over seven furlongs at 4.45pm, which has doubled in prize money from last year and is by far
the richest race for apprentice jockeys in Europe.
The race provides a fantastic opportunity for aspiring British champions of the future to
demonstrate their skills in the saddle on the highest profile raceday of the year.
QIPCO Holding have already given our up-and-coming young jockeys a chance to shine on
some of British Flat racing’s biggest stages this season having also sponsored valuable
apprentice races at Glorious Goodwood and York’s Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival.
Frankie Dettori, Ryan Moore, Paul Hanagan, William Buick, Tom Queally, Jimmy Fortune and
Hayley Turner were all crowned Champion Apprentice in their youth – who will be the next
apprentice to prove a professional star
For the winning rider, there will be a special prize – a working holiday in the USA courtesy of
QIPCO, with one of the trainers used by their racehorse-owning subsidiaries, Pearl Bloodstock
and Qatar Bloodstock.
“Staging Europe’s most valuable apprentices’ race to close the card will give the future stars of
our sport the chance to share some of the limelight on QIPCO British Champions Day, taking to
the track just after the world’s greatest racehorse is due to compete in the QIPCO Champion
Stakes,” said Rod Street, Chief Executive of British Champions Series Ltd.
Currently Amy Ryan and Darren Egan are battling it out for title of UK Champion Apprentice for
the 2012 season.
