Overview
The demand for the A/V Receiver is raised to another level:
• Quality requested for home entertainment has been
evolved greatly by the Full HD Video contents and High
Bit Rate Audio contents such as Dolby TrueHD, and DTS
HD.
• Having HDMI ver. 1.3a compatible (HBR audio decode
and HD video pass through) in the Low-Mid range.
The new Marantz SR6003 is developed to reproduce these
high quality A/V requirements combined with a competitive
feature set, underlining the principles of new generation
Marantz AV Receiver line up:
• Marantz heritage in high quality A/V products
• Flexibility and high reliability
• New generation appearance design

New design
Derived from the historical Marantz design and based on
the Premium Series design which was introduced in
2002, a new Marantz heritage has been created with the
new “M1”-design series. A solid extruded aluminum
centre panel and glass fiber reinforced resin side panels
underline a high stiffness and the ability to absorb
undesired vibration, making the SR6003 as
solid as possibly can be.

To achieve an even more clean, solid and premium-like
appearance the licence logo’s on all new Marantz receivers
are placed on top. Additional to this, the front buttons and
USB-input of the SR6003 are hidden behind a big solid flap.

Quality Sound

Specification audio section
• Every Marantz AV-receiver has the 70% power guarantee, meaning that a
minimum of 70% of the indicated stereo power will be available when 5
channels are simultaneously used.
• THD lists the total harmonic distortion in terms of percentage for the stereo
and surround modes. THD values between 0.05% and 0.08% are
generally considered good. The lower the THD figure, the cleaner the
sound. A lot of competitors mention different THD’s (1% up to 10% to state
higher output levels) which makes comparison difficult and unclear. Always
use the 8 ohms, 0,08% THD value.

Audio PLL for HDMI
The SR6003 is equipped with a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL)
circuit for audio signals transmitted via HDMI, as also used on
the SR8002 and SR7002. The PLL-circuit reproducing clock
for HDMI input signal, improves the sound quality via HDMI
greatly by reducing jitter, caused by the transmission of the
signal via the cable.

Audio PLL for HDMI
A phase-locked loop is a control system that generates a
signal that has a fixed relation to the phase of a "reference"
signal.
Tuning a string on a guitar can be compared to the operation
of a PLL. Using a tuning fork to provide a reference
frequency, the tension of the string is adjusted up or down
until the frequency is matching. If the guitar could be tuned
perfectly to the reference tuning fork frequency, and
maintained there, the guitar would be said to be in phase-lock
with the fork. Only if the guitar (signal) is adjusted correctly
the tone (sound) is how it should be. That is what the PLL is
doing for the HDMI audio on the SR6003.

SR6003 is equipped with decoders for new, 100%
lossless digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD
Master Audio and 7.1 PCM and High Bit-rate Audio Dolby
Digital Plus, DTS HD High Resolution for theater-like,
professional sound quality from High Definition sources
such as Blu-ray Disc.

Compressed audio is getting more and more popular:
- Digital Audio Players (iPod, f.e.)
- Internet music download (mp3, WMA, AAC)
- Digital radio: Compressed audio (HD-RADIO)
Problems
When music is encoded in digital compressed format
such as mp3, AAC and WMA the frequency response of
these compressed audio files attenuates especially in
high range which means a lower sound quality.
